The Division of Mitchell is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. Mitchell is a largely white collar, upper class and socially conservative electorate in the Hills district of northwestern Sydney. Mitchell includes the suburbs of Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill, Winston Hills, Northmead, and North Rocks, along with the quickly growing housing estates around Kellyville and Rouse Hill. History The division is named after Major Thomas Mitchell, surveyor and explorer who was the first European to explore large areas of New South Wales and Victoria. The division was proclaimed at the redistribution of 11 May 1949, and was first contested at the 1949 federal election. Gables is a suburb of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Gables is 42 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of The Hills Shire. Gables is located in the Hills District on the North West of Sydney. History The suburb of Gables was originally the site of a dairy farm owned by Robert Hurrell. This dairy was divided into two parts due to its size and was named Blue Gables and Red Gables. Red Gables Road, which cuts through the middle of the suburb, and The Gables, an ongoing residential development since 2015, were named after the dairy farms. The name of the suburb was subsequently derived from this as well. Gables was gazetted on 17 July 2020. Annangrove is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia 42 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of The Hills Shire and part of the Hills District region. History Annangrove is named after Annangrove House, the home of Edward Charles Johnston, a grandson of George Johnston who had received a large grant in present-day Annandale. He had named his house Annandale, after his birthplace Annan in Scotland and his grandson also used the name for his house in this area. Timber cutting was the first industry in the area, with the land later used for orchards from the 1880s. Edward Johnston bought his land in 1893 from Bennett William Johns. The post office took the Annangrove name from his house when it opened on 16 October 1895, as did the school in 1896.
