Naisjärjestöjen Keskusliitto
Naisjärjestöjen Keskusliitto (NJKL) (Finnish) or Kvinnoorganisationernas centralförbund (Swedish), is a non-profit Finnish women's organization which was established in 1911. When the Finnish Women's Association was split in the Naisasialiitto Unioni (1892) and the Suomalainen naisliitto (1907), there was a need of an umbrella organization of the Finnish women's movement, and the Naisjärjestöjen Keskusliitto was founded in Helsinki in 1911 by Elin Sjöström. The NJKL is dedicated for human rights, gender equality (particularly in the work place) and oppose domestic violence, trafficking and prostitution. It has 61 local branches with 400 000 members (2010). The Finnish Women's Association (, ) is a Finnish women's rights organisation. It was founded in 1884, and is the oldest women's movement organisation in Finland. The organization was the publisher of a women's magazine, '' Koti ja Yhteiskunta'' (1889–1911), which was edited by Alexandra Gripenberg. It is a member of the International Alliance of Women, that has general consultative status with the United Nations. Naisasialiitto Unioni
Naisasialiitto Unioni (Finnish) or Kvinnosaksförbundet Unionen (Swedish), sometimes referred to in English as the League of Finnish Feminists, is a non-profit Finnish women's rights organization which was established in 1892. Since 1904 it has been the Finnish arm of the International Alliance of Women. The co-founders were Lucina Hagman, Maikki Friberg and Venny Soldan-Brofeldt. Unioni was initially concerned with women's voting rights (granted in 1906), equal pay, education and combatting prostitution. More recently, it has striven to improve the social status of women and to increase the number of women who are active in politics. Today the association exerts influence on political discussions, seeks to improve women's rights and works against oppression. Suomalainen Naisliitto
Suomalainen naisliitto (Hfrs), is a non-profit Finnish women's organization which was established in 1907. Suomalainen naisliitto was founded in 1907 by Lucina Hagman. Hagman as well as other leading members, such as Maikki Friberg and Tekla Hultin, were affiliated with the Young Finnish Party. The Hfrs promoted women's emancipation by arranging courses and leactures. Until the 1940s, it published its own magazine, the ''Naisten Ääni''; Maikki Friberg was its editor in 1907–1927. Nowadays ''Naisten Ääni'' https://www.naistenaani.fi/ is a data base collecting biographies of women. The Suomalainen naisliitto publishes the magazine ''Minna'' since 1981. Elin Sjöström
Elin Sjöström (1851–1936) was a Finnish feminist. She was the head of the Finnish Women's Association in 1904–1909.Finsk Kvinnoförening 1884-1909. Helsingfors: Suomen Naisyhdistys. 1909 She was born to the official Gabriel Wilhelm Sundeberg and Sophie Jacobina Stenij. She was educated at the Heinola Girls' School and was employed there as a teacher. In 1869 she married Bernd Ferdinand Sjöström (d. 1893), an official at the Finnish Senate. She was one of the founding members of the Finnish Women's Association in 1884, and was the deputy head in 1887–1888, its secretary in 1889–1904 and its president in 1904–1909. The European Women's Lobby (EWL) is the largest umbrella organization of women's non-governmental associations in Europe working for the interests of women and girls in all their diversity and gender equality in all areas of life. EWL was founded in 1990 and it is the largest women's organization in Europe, representing a total of more than 2,000 organizations. A woman is an adult female human. Before adulthood, a female child or adolescent is referred to as a girl. Typically, women are of the female sex and inherit a pair of X chromosomes, one from each parent, and women with functional uteruses are capable of pregnancy and giving birth from puberty until menopause.
