Elin Sjöström
Elin Sjöström (1851–1936) was a Finnish feminist. She was the head of the Finnish Women's Association in 1904–1909.Finsk Kvinnoförening 1884-1909. Helsingfors: Suomen Naisyhdistys. 1909 She was born to the official Gabriel Wilhelm Sundeberg and Sophie Jacobina Stenij. She was educated at the Heinola Girls' School and was employed there as a teacher. In 1869 she married Bernd Ferdinand Sjöström (d. 1893), an official at the Finnish Senate. She was one of the founding members of the Finnish Women's Association in 1884, and was the deputy head in 1887–1888, its secretary in 1889–1904 and its president in 1904–1909. The Finnish Women's Association (, ) is a Finnish women's rights organisation. It was founded in 1884, and is the oldest women's movement organisation in Finland. The organization was the publisher of a women's magazine, '' Koti ja Yhteiskunta'' (1889–1911), which was edited by Alexandra Gripenberg. It is a member of the International Alliance of Women, that has general consultative status with the United Nations. International Council Of Women
The International Council of Women (ICW) is a women's organization working across national boundaries for the common cause of advocating women's rights, human rights for women. In March and April 1888, women leaders came together in Washington D.C., with 80 speakers and 49 delegates representing 53 women's organizations from 9 countries: Canada, the United States, Ireland, India, United Kingdom, Finland, Denmark, France and Norway. Women from professional organizations, trade unions, arts groups and benevolent societies participate. National councils are affiliated to the ICW and thus make themselves heard at the international level. Naisjärjestöjen Keskusliitto (NJKL) (Finnish) or Kvinnoorganisationernas centralförbund (Swedish), is a non-profit Finnish women's organization which was established in 1911.
