Miðflokkurin
The Centre Party () is a Christian democracy, Christian democratic, conservative List of political parties on the Faroe Islands, political party on the Faroe Islands, led by Jenis av Rana. The party is known for its social conservatism, particularly its stance on LGBT rights. At the 2008 Faroese general election, the party won 8.4% of the popular vote and three out of 33 seats in the Løgting. In the 2011 Faroese general election, the party fell to 6.2% and two seats. Álvur Kirke
Álvur Kirke (born 29 July 1939 in Vágur) is a former Faroese people, Faroese docker and politician (Miðflokkurin, MF). He worked on the wharf in Tórshavn from 1972 onwards. He was one of the founders of the Christian democratic party Centre Party (Faroe Islands), Miðflokkurin in 1992, and was a member of the board of the party until 2004. Kirke was chairman of the party from 1992 until 1994, and again from 1999 until 2001, succeeded on both occasions by Jenis av Rana. The Faroe Islands have a multi-party system, with numerous parties in which no one party often has a chance of gaining power alone, and parties must work with each other to form coalition governments. There are two major ideological cleavages in Faroese politics. In addition to the Left–right politics, left-right spectrum, parties are also divided between those that want to maintain the Faroes' place within the Danish Realm ('unionists') and those that want Faroese independence ('separatists'). Jenis Av Rana
Jenis Kristian av Rana (born 7 January 1953 in Trongisvágur) is a Faroese medical practitioner and politician, serving as leader of the Centre Party since 2001. He served as minister of Foreign Affairs and Culture of the Faroe Islands from 2019 until his party's withdrawal from government in November 2022. Jenis av Rana has been elected to the Løgting (the Faroese parliament) since 1994 and has been parliamentary leader for his party since then. His strong social conservative beliefs, particularly towards LGBT rights, have made him a controversial figure in Faroese politics, especially when he refused a dinner invitation from the then-Icelandic prime minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir due to her sexuality. 2011 Faroese General Election
Early general elections were held in the Faroe Islands on 29 October 2011. Faroese law states that new elections must be held at least once every four years; however, either the Prime Minister (''Løgmaður'') or a majority of the members of the Faroese Parliament (the ''Løgting'') may call an election before the end of this period. The previous elections having been held on 20 January 2008, the latest date on which the next elections could have been held was 19 January 2012. However, the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, Kaj Leo Johannesen, announced on 27 September 2011 that elections would be held on 29 October 2011. He gave no particular reason for his decision. General elections were held in the Faroe Islands on 1 September 2015. 2015 Danish general election, Elections for the Danish Folketing were held beforehand on 18 June. Background On 4 August 2015 the Løgting passed a motion that criticized Prime Minister Kaj Leo Johannesen and former Minister of the Interior Kári P. Højgaard, accusing Johannesen of lying to the Løgting in connection with a 1 million Danish krone, kroner break fee clause in the contract led by the Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners to build a List of tunnels of the Faroe Islands, sub-sea tunnel between Eysturoy and Streymoy. Although Kaj Leo Johannesen had previously told the Løgting that he had no part of the break fee, a judicial inquiry led by Hans Gammeltoft-Hansen (the Danish ombudsman from 1987 until 2012) confirmed in June 2015 that Kaj Leo Johannesen had knowingly misled the Løgting on several occasions, thereby breaking the law. Parliamentary elections were held in the Faroe Islands on 20 January 2004. Candidates Hin Stuttligi Flokkurin (English: ''The Funny Party''), the joke political party founded in 2004 by Johan Dalsgaard, got 747 votes in the Faroese parliament election in 2004.
