Mersin
Mersin () is a large city and port on the Mediterranean Sea, Mediterranean coast of Mediterranean Region, Turkey, southern Turkey. It is the provincial capital of the Mersin Province (formerly İçel). It is made up of four district governorates, each having its own municipality: Akdeniz, Mersin, Akdeniz, Mezitli, Toroslar and Yenişehir, Mersin, Yenişehir. Mersin lies on the western side of Çukurova, a geographical, economic and cultural region of Turkey. It is an important hub for Turkey's economy, with Port of Mersin, Turkey's largest seaport located here. The city hosted the 2013 Mediterranean Games. As urbanisation continues eastward, a larger metropolitan region combining Mersin with Tarsus, Mersin, Tarsus and Adana (the Adana-Mersin Metropolitan Area) is in the making with more than 3.3 million inhabitants. Mersin Province (), formerly İçel Province (), is a Provinces of Turkey, province and Metropolitan municipalities in Turkey, metropolitan municipality in southern Turkey, on the Mediterranean Sea, Mediterranean coast between Antalya Province, Antalya and Adana Province, Adana. 2013 Mediterranean Games
The 2013 Mediterranean Games (), officially known as the XVII Mediterranean Games () and commonly known as Mersin 2013, was an international multi-sport event held from 20 to 30 June 2013 in Mersin, Turkey. Mersin was announced as the host city at the General Assembly of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (CIJM) on 23 February 2011. Mersin is the second city in Turkey after Ä°zmir to host the Mediterranean Games. All 24 member National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the ICMG participated in the Games. The official programme for the Games is featuring events in 27 different sports. YeniÅŸehir, Mersin
Yenişehir () is a municipality and district of Mersin Province, Turkey. Its area is 139 km2, and its population is 278,961 (2022). It covers the west-central part of the city of Mersin and the adjacent countryside. History Originally a part of Mersin municipality, the municipality of Yenişehir was established in 1993 as a secondary level municipality of Mersin. In 2008 the district Yenişehir was created from part of the former central district of Mersin, along with the districts Mezitli, Toroslar and Akdeniz. At the same time, the former municipality Çiftlikköy was absorbed into the municipality of Yenişehir. Port Of Mersin
The Port of Mersin (), is a major seaport located on the north-eastern coast of Mediterranean Sea in Mersin, southern Turkey. As one of the largest harbors in the country, it is Turkey's main gateway to the Mediterranean Sea. It was constructed during the 1950s as a major government project. It is the country's second largest port after Ambarli, near Istanbul. Owned by the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), its operating right is transferred on May 11, 2007, to PSA – Akfen consortium for a period of 36 years. Toroslar
Toroslar is a municipality and district of Mersin Province, Turkey. Its area is 1,075 km2, and its population is 319,711 (2022). It covers the northern part of the city of Mersin and the adjacent countryside. Geography The district of Akdeniz lies in the southeast. Müftü River and the district of Yenişehir lie in the southwest. Southern slopes of Toros mountains lie in the north. Mersin intrafaith cemetery is in Toroslar. History Yumuktepe, the ruins of one of the earliest human settlements in Anatolia is in Toroslar. Mezitli
Mezitli is a municipality and district of Mersin Province, Turkey. Its area is 371 km2, and its population is 225,824 (2024). It covers the westernmost part of the city of Mersin and the adjacent countryside. The Mayor of Mezitli is Ahmet Serkan Tuncer. Geography Mezitli covers the western part of Mersin proper. Southern quarters of Mezitli are popularly known as ''Viranşehir'' ("ruined city") because of the ruins. Çukurova International Airport is an airport in the Tarsus, Mersin, Tarsus district of Mersin Province, southern Turkey.
