Meenas
Meena () is a tribe from northern and western India which is sometimes considered a sub-group of the Bhil community. It used to be claimed they speak Mina language, a spurious language. Its name is also transliterated as ''Meenanda'' or ''Mina''. They got the status of Scheduled Tribe by the Government of India in 1954. Ethnography The Meenas were originally a nomadic tribe. They were described as a semi-wild and hill tribe similar to the Bhils. But in the British Raj, for the fulfillment of its purpose by the British Government, they were described as a "criminal tribe" and listed according to the Criminal Tribes Act. Presently they are described as Scheduled Tribe by the Indian Government. Mewati Language
Mewati ( Devanagri: मेवाती; Perso-Arabic: میواتی) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken predominantly by the Meo people. It has three million speakers in the Mewat Region with most speakers in Nuh district of Haryana. It is also spoken in parts of Khairthal-Tijara district, Palwal district, Deeg district, Gurgaon district, and Mathura district. According to the 2023 Pakistani census, there are around 1.1 million Mewati speakers in Pakistan. While other people in the region also speak the Mewati language, it is one of the defining characteristics of the Meo culture. There are 9 vowels, 31 consonants, and two diphthongs. Suprasegmentals are less prominent than they are in the other. There are two numbers; singular and plural. Two genders; masculine and feminine, and three cases; direct, oblique, and vocative. Criminal Tribes Act
Since the 1870s, various pieces of colonialism, colonial legislation in India during British Raj, British rule were collectively called the Criminal Tribes Act (CTA). This criminalised entire communities by designating them as habitual criminals. The first CTA, the Criminal Tribes Act 1871, was applied mostly in North India, before it was extended to the Bengal Presidency and other areas in 1876, and updated to the Criminal Tribes Act 1911, which included the Madras Presidency. The Act went through several amendments in the next decade, and, finally, the 1924 version incorporated all of them. At the time of Independence of India, Indian independence in 1947, thirteen million people in 127 communities were subject to the legislation. Bhils
Bhil or Bheel refer to the various indigenous groups inhabiting western India, including parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and are also found in distant places such as Bengal and Tripura. Though they now speak the Bhili language, an Indo-Aryan language, the original aboriginal language that the Bhil originally spoke is lost. Bhils are divided into a number of endogamous territorial divisions, which in turn have a number of clans and lineages. Bhils are listed as tribal people in the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan—all in the western Deccan regions and central India—as well as in Bengal and Tripura in far-eastern India, on the border with Bangladesh.
