Mathura
Mathura () is a city and the administrative headquarters of Mathura district in the states and union territories of India, Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located south-east of Delhi; and about from the town of Vrindavan. In ancient times, Mathura was an economic hub, located at the junction of important caravan (travellers), caravan routes. The 2011 Census of India estimated the population of Mathura at 441,894. In Hinduism, the birthplace of Krishna, one of the main deities in that religion, is believed to be located in Mathura at the Krishna Janmasthan Temple Complex. It is one of the Sapta Puri, the seven cities considered holy by Hindus, also is called Mokshyadayni Tirth. The Kesava Deo Temple was built in ancient times on the site of Krishna's birthplace (an underground prison). Krishna Janmasthan Temple Complex
Krishna Janmasthan Temple is a Hindu temple situated in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, India. There are three main temples inside the premises -- ''Keshavdev'' ''temple'' which is dedicated to Krishna, ''Garbh Griha'' where Krishna is believed to be born in Dvapar Yuga and ''Bhagvata Bhavan'' where presiding deities are Radha Krishna. The place has held religious significance since at least the 6th century BCE with findings of religious artifacts in excavations. Vrindavan
Vrindavan (; ), also spelt Vrindaban and Brindaban, is a historical city in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located in the Braj, Braj Bhoomi region and holds religious importance for Hindus who believe that Krishna, one of the main Gods in Hinduism, spent most of his childhood in this city. Vrindavan has about 5,500 temples dedicated to the worship of Krishna and his chief consort, Radha. It is one of the most sacred places for Vaishnavism, Vaishnava traditions. Vrindavan forms a part of the "Krishna pilgrimage circuit" under development by the Indian Ministry of Tourism. Yamuna
The Yamuna (; ) is the second-largest tributary river of the Ganges by discharge and the longest tributary in India. Originating from the Yamunotri Glacier at a height of about on the southwestern slopes of Bandarpunch peaks of the Lower Himalaya in Uttarakhand, it travels and has a drainage system of , 40.2% of the entire Ganges Basin. It merges with the Ganges at Triveni Sangam, Prayagraj, which is a site of the Kumbh Mela, a Hindu festival held every 12 years. Vishram Ghat
Vishram Ghat is a ghat, a bath and worship place, on the banks of river Yamuna in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, Mathura, India. The traditional parikrama starts and ends at Vishram Ghat. Lord Krishna, Krishna is said to have rested at this place after killing Kamsa and the name Vishram Ghat is in reference to this as it means "ghat of rest." However, according to the ''Varaha Purana, Varāha Purāṇa'', it was Vasudeva who rested at the site and is whom the ghat is named after. None of the Vaishnavite deities present at the ghat mentioned by Rupa Goswami in the 16th century survive to modern day. According to tradition, the site was formerly a cremation ground. Braj Bhasha
Braj is a language within the Indo-Aryan language family spoken in the Braj region in Western Uttar Pradesh centered on Mathura. Along with Awadhi, it was one of the two predominant literary languages of North-Central India before gradually merging and contributing to the development of standardized Hindi in the 19th century. It is spoken today in its unique form in many districts of Western Uttar Pradesh, often referred to as 'Central Braj Bhasha'. The language was historically used for Vaishnavite poetry dedicated to Krishna, whose life was associated with sites in the Braj region. Kans Quila
Kans Quila or Kans Kila is a fortified castle located in Mathura, India. The earliest definitive mention of the castle is by Narahara Chakravarti in the 18th century, who described it to be the ruins of Kansa's castle. Since then, the castle walls have largely crumbled away and the site has been encroached upon. The current structure was built by Man Singh I. An observatory is said to have been added in the complex by Sawai Jai Singh (1699–1743), however it has been demolished now. The fort was used by Jats and Marathas, and under the British rule the fort was neglected and somewhat demolished. The fort has an audience hall surrounded by red sandstone pillars. The fort was earlier used as a barrier against floods.
