Matane-Matapédia (provincial Electoral District)
Matane-Matapédia () is a provincial electoral district in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It includes the municipalities of Matane, Mont-Joli, Amqui, Sainte-Luce, Causapscal, Price, Sayabec, Saint-Ulric, Lac-au-Saumon and Saint-Gabriel-de-Rimouski. La Matapédia Regional County Municipality
La Matapédia () is a regional county municipality (RCM) in eastern Quebec, Canada at the base of the Gaspé peninsula, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. Its seat is in Amqui. It is named after the Matapédia River which runs through the western part of the RCM. La Matapédia was created on January 1, 1982, succeeding from the former Matapédia County Municipality. The region was subject to one of the last waves of colonization in Quebec, settled mostly by people from the Lower Saint-Lawrence between 1850 and 1950. It is a rural region in the Matapedia Valley crossed by the Notre Dame Mountains. Agriculture and logging, and its related industries (forestry and wood products), are the main economic activities. Price, Quebec
Price is a village municipality in La Mitis Regional County Municipality in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada. Its population in the Canada 2021 Census was 1,729. The city of Mont-Joli provides the services necessary for the whole region. History It was the arrival of the Price Brothers and Company (of William Evan Price) that the village of Price was founded at the end of the 19th century. It was a suburb of Saint-Octave-de-Métis, which constituted a community of workers, who were employed at the saw mill. The parish of (Saint-Rémi-de-Métis) was detached from Saint-Octave-de-Métis in 1909. In 1916, the parish was erected. Ten years later, in 1926, the municipality was founded under the name Priceville. The name was modified in 1945 to avoid confusion with the village of Princeville in the Bois-Francs region of Quebec. Saint-Gabriel-de-Rimouski () is a municipality in La Mitis Regional County Municipality in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada. Sainte-Flavie () is a parish municipality in the La Mitis Regional County Municipality of Quebec, Canada, located on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River, about northwest of Mont-Joli. It is named after Flavia, a martyred saint. Sainte-Flavie is the westernmost point of Route 132's loop around the Gaspé Peninsula at which the road intersects with itself. History Formerly, the territory of the municipality covered a much larger area, extending deeper inland until what is the current municipality of Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc. In 1696, Louis de Buade de Frontenac, governor of New France, ceded the territory as a seigneury to Louis Lepage and Gabriel Thibierge. The territory was given the name of Lepage. Saint-Donat () is a parish municipality in La Mitis Regional County Municipality in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada. Its population in the Canada 2021 Census was 835. History Saint-Donat was originally a sector of Sainte-Luce. Saint-Donat split from Sainte-Luce in 1869 to became the parish municipality of Saint-Donat. The original economic vocation of Saint-Donat was based almost entirely on forestry, as evidenced by the many remnants of the sawmills that once dotted the area. Later, like many other towns in the region, agriculture became the main activity. Writer Rejean Pigeon is from the area and one of his novel is set in Saint-Donat. Saint-Charles-Garnier () is a parish municipality in Quebec, Canada. History Settlers began arriving in the area at the end of 1935. They came mainly from Priceville, Saint-Fabien, Sainte-Flavie, Saint-François-Xavier-des-Hauteurs and Saint-Simon-de-la-Baie-Ha! Ha!. A Catholic service was opened in 1937 and the first parish priest was appointed. The parish of Saint-Charles-Garnier was canonically erected in 1954.
