Masayo Ōsawa
was a Japanese diving (sport), diver. She competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics and finished sixth in the Diving at the 1936 Summer Olympics – Women's 3 metre springboard, 3 m springboard and 14th in the Diving at the 1936 Summer Olympics – Women's 10 metre platform, 10 m platform competition. Her sister Reiko Ōsawa also competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics. During World War II Ōsawa served in the Japanese Army as a nurse and died of an illness six months after the end of military operations in Northern China. Diving is the sport of jumping or falling into water from a Diving platform, platform or springboard, usually while performing acrobatics. Diving is an internationally recognised sport that is part of the Olympic Games. In addition, unstructured and non-competitive diving is a recreational pastime. Competitors possess many of the same characteristics as gymnastics, gymnasts and dancers, including strength, flexibility, kinaesthetic judgement and air awareness. Some professional divers were originally gymnasts or dancers as both the sports have similar characteristics to diving.
