Maria Eugénia Cunhal
Maria Eugénia Barreirinhas Cunhal Medina (1927 – 2015) was a Portuguese journalist, poet, writer, teacher and translator who also used the pseudonym Maria André. A communist activist, she was the sister of the General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), Álvaro Cunhal. Early life Cunhal was born in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon on 17 January 1927, daughter of Mercedes Simões Ferreira Barreirinhas and Avelino Henriques da Costa Cunhal, who came from Coimbra. Her father was a lawyer and her mother a devout Catholic. She was the youngest of the couple's four children, her brother Álvaro Cunhal being 14 years older than she. Her sister died in 1921 before she was born, and her elder brother died when she was six years old. Associação Feminina Portuguesa Para A Paz
The ''Associação Feminina Portuguesa para a Paz'' (Portuguese Women's Association for Peace - AFPP) was a female pacifist association created in 1935 and dissolved by the Estado Novo (Portugal), Esdado Novo dictatorship in 1952. It had active groups in Lisbon, Coimbra and Porto. Although declaring itself apolitical, many of its members were anti-fascists opposed to the ''Estado Novo''. Its activities involved providing support to prisoners of war, and it organized lectures, exhibitions, and other events as a way to disseminate the principles of World Peace. In the last decade of its existence, it became increasingly opposed to the Government, in response to increased repression (general and, in particular, against women's movements). Alto de São João Cemetery ( Portuguese: ''Cemitério do Alto de São João'') is the largest cemetery in Lisbon, Portugal, located in the ''freguesia'' (civil parish) of Penha de França, in eastern Lisbon (formerly, within the parish of São João (Lisbon), São João). RTP 1
RTP1 (''RTP um'') is a Portuguese free-to-air television channel owned and operated by state-owned public broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP). It is the company's flagship television channel, and is known for broadcasting mainstream and generalist programming, including '' Telejornal'' news bulletins, prime time drama, cinema and entertainment, and major breaking news, sports and special events. It was launched on 7 March 1957 as the first regular television service in Portugal. It was the only one until 25 December 1968, when RTP launched a second channel. Two regional channels followed, RTP Madeira on 6 August 1972 and RTP Açores on 10 August 1975. As RTP held a monopoly on television broadcasting in the country, they were the only television channels until the first commercial television was launched on 6 October 1992, when SIC started broadcasting nationwide.
