Mandorah, Northern Territory
Mandorah is a locality in the Northern Territory of Australia. Its local government area is the Wagait Shire. The locality of Mandorah on the Cox Peninsula, across the harbour from Darwin, is named after "Mandorah", a guest house built in what is now the locality by Allan Hartwig prior to 1948. In 2019 the Northern Territory Government announced it would spend up to $50 million to replace the Mandorah jetty, construct a breakwater to protect it from damage during storms, and construct a boat ramp. The original jetty was built in the 1960s and repaired several times since it was damaged by Cyclone Tracy in 1974. The temporary repairs had posed difficulties for disabled people wanting to use the ferry service. Daly is an electoral division of the Legislative Assembly in Australia's Northern Territory. It was created in 2001, and takes its name from the Daly River region which lies at the heart of the electorate. Daly covers some 77,395 km², encompassing the towns of Adelaide River, Acacia Hills, Batchelor, Dundee Beach, Nauiyu Nambiyu, Pine Creek, Timber Creek and Wadeye. The Division of Lingiari () is an Divisions of the Australian House of Representatives, Australian electoral division in the Northern Territory that covers the entirety of the territory outside of the Division of Solomon, which covers Darwin, Northern Territory, Darwin and surrounding areas. Wagait Beach, Northern Territory
Wagait Beach is a locality approximately 8 km west of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, on the opposite side of the harbour. It makes up the Wagait Shire local government area. The population was 422 in 2021. Wagait Beach is on the north coast of the Cox Peninsula, which forms the western side of Darwin Harbour. It is part of the Hundred of Bray, as surveyed by George Goyder in 1869–70. History In 1942, after the Bombing of Darwin, a military base was established at Waugite Point on the north east of the Cox Peninsula, and a huge observation tower was constructed, with a communications bunker underneath it. Waugaite tower was destroyed by Cyclone Tracy in 1974. The precise origin of the name of the community is unclear, but the beach adjacent to Wagait Point is called Wagait Beach. __NOTOC__ Cox Peninsula is a locality in the Northern Territory of Australia located on the Cox Peninsula and adjoining land about south-west of the territorial capital of Darwin. Cox Peninsula consists of land both on the Cox Peninsula and its immediate south and which is located within the cadastral units of the hundreds of Bray and Parsons, but does not included land within the two local government areas established on the peninsula, the Belyuen Shire and Wagait Shire. The locality is named after the Cox Peninsula which itself is named after Matthew Dillon Cox, a pastoralist who applied in 1869 for a lease over the entire peninsula.
