Madawaska is a geographic parish in Madawaska County, New Brunswick, Canada. The parish consists of two discontiguous portions, separated by Saint-Joseph Parish. For governance purposes, the southwestern portion is divided between the city of Edmundston and the town of Haut-Madawaska; the northeastern portion is part of the Northwest rural district. All three bodies are part of the Northwest Regional Service Commission. Before the 2023 governance reform, the northeastern portion of the parish formed the local service district of the parish of Madawaska. Origin of name The parish was named for the Madawaska River. History Madawaska was erected in 1833 from the northern part of Kent Parish, taking in most of modern Madawaska County and the northern part of Victoria County. Kent is a geographic parish in the northeastern corner of Carleton County, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to the 2023 governance reform, for governance purposes it was divided between one village, two local service districts, and part of one town, all of which were members of the Western Valley Regional Service Commission (WVRSC). The Census subdivision of Kent Parish includes all of the geographic parish except the two municipalities. Origin of name The parish was named in memory of the Duke of Kent, father of Queen Victoria. The Iroquois River is a tributary of the Saint John River (Bay of Fundy) emptying in New Brunswick, in Canada. For governance purposes it is part of the incorporated rural community of Haut-Madawaska, which is a member of the Northwest Regional Service Commission (NWRSC). Origin of name The parish takes its name from the local Roman Catholic church. History Saint-Hilaire was erected as Saint Hilaire in 1877 from Madawaska and Saint-François Parishes. Saint-Léonard () is a geographic parish in Madawaska County, New Brunswick, Canada. For governance purposes it is divided between the town of Vallée-des-Rivières and the Northwest rural district, both of which are members of the Northwest Regional Service Commission. Before the 2023 governance reform, the parish was divided between the town of Saint-Léonard and the local service district of the parish of Saint-Léonard, part of which was included in Vallée-des-Rivières by the reform.
