''Macif'' is a Ultim (trimaran sailboat class), Ultim class maxi-trimaran launched in 2015. History ''Macif'' was designed by the naval architectural firm VPLP design, Van Peteghem Lauriot-Prévost with the assistance of GSea Design for calculation of the structure. The yacht is built for long distance sailing competitions and attempts at sailing records. With the yacht, skipper François Gabart has won the Transat Jacques Vabre in 2015 (sailing dual-handed with Pascal Bidégorry) and Single-Handed Trans-Atlantic Race, The Transat in 2016. In 2017, a new around the world sailing record for circumnavigation of the world was set by François Gabart at 42 days, 16 hours, 40 minutes, and 35 seconds. VPLP Design (Van Peteghem Lauriot-Prévost) is a French-based naval architectural firm founded by Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prévost, responsible for designing some of the world's most innovative racing boats. CDK Technologies is a boat building company now located in Lorient (France) with a primary site in marine hub of Port-la-Forêt. It was founded in 1984, it specializes in the construction of prototype sailboats for offshore racing. History and main achievements CDK Technologies was founded in 1984 by Hubert Desjoyeaux, Jean Le Cam, Gaëtan Gouerou and architect Marc Van Peteghem of VPLP Design fame. François Gabart (born 23 March 1983 in Saint-Michel-d'Entraygues, France) is a French professional offshore yacht racer who won the 2012-13 Vendée Globe in 78 days 2 hours 16 minutes, setting a new race record. In 2017 he set the speed record for sailing around the globe, in 42 days 16 hours 40 minutes and 35 seconds, finishing on 17 December. He was sailing solo in the 30 metre Trimaran Macif. Trimaran
A trimaran (or double-outrigger) is a multihull boat that comprises a main hull and two smaller outrigger hulls (or "floats") which are attached to the main hull with lateral beams. Most modern trimarans are sailing yachts designed for recreation or racing; others are ferries or warships. They originated from the traditional double-outrigger hulls of the Austronesian cultures of Maritime Southeast Asia; particularly in the Philippines and Eastern Indonesia, where it remains the dominant hull design of traditional fishing boats. Double-outriggers are derived from the older catamaran and single-outrigger boat designs. Pascal Bidegorry (born 15 January 1968, in Bayonne) is a French sailor. Life He has raced across the Atlantic Ocean over 30 times and has set records in many classes. He has won the Solitaire du Figaro and the Transat Jacques Vabre; apart from several championships in the ORMA, International Monohull Open Classes Association, IMOCA, MOD 70 and :fr:Décision 35, Décision 35 circuits. Besides, he has six French and World Championship titles under his belt. He joined Team Banque Populaire in 2004 as skipper of the ''Banque Populaire III'' trimaran. Single-Handed Trans-Atlantic Race
The Single-handed Trans-Atlantic Race (STAR) is an east-to-west yacht race across the North Atlantic. When inaugurated in 1960, it was the first single-handed ocean yacht race; it is run from Plymouth in England to Newport, Rhode Island in the United States, and has generally been held on a four yearly basis. The race is organised by the Royal Western Yacht Club and was originally sponsored by the UK-based newspaper ''The Observer'', and known as the Observer Single-handed Trans-Atlantic Race; due to changes in sponsorship, it has been known as the CSTAR, Europe 1 STAR, and the Europe 1 New Man STAR. After the 2000 edition, the RWYC took the decision to split the race into two events, one using smaller boats and intended for amateurs and young sailors, the other for professionals. Around The World Sailing Record
The first around the world sailing record for circumnavigation of the world can be attributed to the surviving crew of Ferdinand Magellan's expedition, including the last captain Juan Sebastián Elcano who completed their journey in 1522. Although not in a single voyage but Magellan was technically the first to circumnavigate the globe since he was killed in the Mactan Islands and while in the Kingdom of Portugal's service, Magellan had already reached the Malay Archipelago in Southeast Asia on previous voyages traveling east (from 1505 to 1511–1512). By visiting this area again but now traveling west, Magellan achieved a nearly complete personal circumnavigation of the globe for the first time in history. The first solo record was set by Joshua Slocum in the ''Spray'' (1898).
