The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Police Department (MIT Police, formerly MIT Campus Patrol) is the police agency charged with providing law enforcement to the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The 168-acre (68.0 ha) campus extends over 1 mile (1.6 km) along the northern bank of the Charles River basin. The MIT Police is a special state police agency authorized by Massachusetts General Law. History The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), established in 1861, is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1987, MIT had about 65 employees in its police department. This is a list of law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics' 2018 ''Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies'' (CSLLEA), the state had 374 law enforcement agencies employing 19,578 ( sworn) personnel (27,489 personnel, total, including sworn and non-sworn positions), with an average of 284 sworn personnel per 100,000 residents (compared to the national average of 241 sworn personnel per 100,000 residents, with Massachusetts maintaining approximately 16% more sworn personnel per 100,000 residents than the national average). Between the previous CSLLEA (in 2008) and the 2018 CSLLEA, Massachusetts saw an increase of 357 law enforcement agencies to 374 (an increase of 17 agencies or 4.6%). Meejin Yoon
J. Meejin Yoon (born 1972) is a Korean-American architect, designer, and educator. In 2014, Yoon was appointed as the first female head of the Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In July 2018, she was named the Gale and Ira Drukier Dean of the College of Architecture, Art and Planning at Cornell University. 2014 Boston Marathon
The 2014 Boston Marathon took place in Boston, Massachusetts, on Monday, April 21. It was the 118th official running of the Boston Marathon, traditionally held on Patriots' Day. The race is organized by the Boston Athletic Association, and has been happening yearly since 1897 (the 2020 Boston Marathon was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic). On account of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, extra security measures were implemented.
