The Madrid Metro (Spanish: ''Metro de Madrid'') is a rapid transit system serving the city of Madrid, capital of Spain. The system is the 14th longest rapid transit system in the world, with a total length of 293 km (182 mi). Its growth between 1995 and 2007 put it among the fastest-growing networks in the world at the time, rivaling many Asian metros such as the Mass Transit Railway (Hong Kong), Shanghai Metro, Guangzhou Metro, Beijing Subway, and Delhi Metro. However, the European debt crisis greatly slowed expansion plans, with many projects being postponed and canceled. Unlike normal Spanish road and rail traffic, which drive on the right, Madrid Metro trains use left-hand running on all lines because traffic in Madrid drove on the left until 1924, five years after the system started operating. Carabanchel
Carabanchel is a district of Madrid, Spain. It lies on the southern (right) bank of the Manzanares, spanning southward down to the M-40 ring road. The district is made up of the neighbourhoods of Abrantes, Comillas, Opañel, Puerta Bonita, San Isidro and Vista Alegre. Overview The area was the scene of fierce fighting during the Spanish Civil War -especially in November 1936, during the Battle of Madrid, when Nationalist troops tried to fight their way into the area. __NOTOC__ Line 11 of the Madrid Metro is a rapid transit line in Madrid, Spain. The line originally opened between and on 16 November 1998. History For the line's first eight years of existence, there were just three stations. In 2006 the line was extended from Pan Bendito to with two intermediate stations. In 2010 the line was extended once more to . Future Line 11 was projected to ultimately become one of the longest lines in Madrid according to plans of the regional government in 2005. The project to expand the line north and south was reimagined in 2020. The final form is projected to become a large 'Diagonal' which would connect 11 of the 12 lines of the metro.
