Linheraptor
''Linheraptor'' is a genus of dromaeosaurid dinosaur which lived in what is now China in the Late Cretaceous. It was named by Xu Xing (paleontologist), Xu Xing and colleagues in 2010, and contains the species ''Linheraptor exquisitus''. This bird-like dinosaur was less than 2 m (6.5 ft) long and was found in Inner Mongolia. It is known from a single, nearly complete skeleton. Discovery Researchers announced the discovery of the genus after a nearly complete fossilised skeleton was found in 2008 by Jonah N. Choiniere and Michael Pittman in Inner Mongolia; a more detailed publication is forthcoming. The specimen was recovered from rocks at Bayan Mandahu that belong to the Wulansuhai Formation. The latter includes lithologies that are very similar to the Mongolian Campanian-aged rocks of the Djadokhta Formation which have yielded the closely related dromaeosaurids ''Tsaagan'' and ''Velociraptor''. Eudromaeosauria (International Phonetic Alphabet, ; "true dromaeosaurs") is a subgroup of terrestrial Dromaeosauridae, dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaurs. Tsaagan
''Tsaagan'' (meaning "white") is a genus of dromaeosaurid dinosaur from the Djadokhta Formation of the Late Cretaceous of Mongolia. Discovery and naming The holotype of ''Tsaagan'' was discovered in 1996 and first identified as a specimen of ''Velociraptor''. After a CAT-scan in May 1998 it was concluded that it represented a new genus. In December 2006 its type species was named and described by Mark Norell, James Clark, Alan Turner, Peter Makovicky, Rinchen Barsbold and Timothy Rowe. The species name, ''Tsaagan mangas'', should be read as a whole with the generic name qualifying the specific epithet, and is derived from the Mongolian words for "white monster" (), although with an accidental misspelling of the word Tsagaan. Xu Xing (; born July 1969) is a Chinese paleontologist who has named more dinosaurs than any other living paleontologist. Such dinosaurs include the Jurassic ceratopsian '' Yinlong'', the Jurassic tyrannosauroid '' Guanlong'', the large oviraptorosaur '' Gigantoraptor'', and the troodontid '' Mei''. Biography Xing was born in Xinjiang, China, in 1969. A graduate from the department of geology of Peking University, he is currently a researcher at the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. He had originally planned to become an economist. However, he was assigned to the department of geology by the Chinese authorities.
