Liga I
Liga I (; ''First League''), also spelled as Liga 1 and officially known as SuperLiga for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Romania and the highest level of the Romanian football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation from and to Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table. Liga I was established in 1909 and commenced play for the 1909–10 Divizia A, 1909–10 campaign, being currently 25th in UEFA's UEFA coefficient#League coefficient, league coefficient ranking list. It is administered by the Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal, also known by the acronym LPF. Dudu Georgescu
Dudu Georgescu (born 1 September 1950) is a retired Romanian footballer who played as a forward and former coach. Club career Georgescu was born in Bucharest on 1 September 1950. He started his career at Progresul București, making his Divizia A debut in a 3–0 victory against Universitatea Craiova in which he played as a central defender. After playing for Progresul in the first two leagues for a few years, Georgescu went to play for a short while at CSM Reșița, where he scored seven goals in 12 Divizia A games, including a double in a 4–1 victory against Dinamo București, which convinced them to transfer him. Chinezul Timișoara
Chinezul Timișoara was a football club that played both in the Romanian and the Hungarian championship during its existence. It was based in Timișoara, Romania (at the time of foundation Temesvár, Austria-Hungary). History The club was established in 1910 under the name ''Temesvári Kinizsi SE'' with the support of the local Rail Workers' Association. It was named after Pál Kinizsi, a general in the army of king Matthias Corvinus and Comes of Temes. The crest of the club also reflected to it, as it featured an arm holding a mill stone. This was related to old Hungarian folk tales which stated that Pál Kinizsi was a very strong miller who offered the king a glass of water on a mill stone with one hand instead of a platter. Asociația Fotbal Club Venus 1914 București, commonly known as Venus București, or simply as Venus, is a Romanian amateur football club based in Bucharest, founded in 1914 and re-founded in 2014. The club is currently playing in the Liga IV - București. Venus players are nicknamed ''Negrii'' (English: ''The Blacks'') due to their all black shirts. The Eternal derby (), also called the Romanian derby ( or ) or the Great derby (), is a football match between Bucharest rivals ''FCSB'' and '' Dinamo București''. The game is usually among—if not the most—viewed and attended of the Liga I season. The two most successful clubs in Romania, they won a combined 95 honours: a record 61 for Steaua/FCSB (including two international trophies) and 34 for Dinamo București. 2006–07 Liga I
The 2006–07 Liga I was the eighty-ninth season of Liga I, the top-level association football, football league of Romania. Season began on 28 July 2006 and ended on 23 May 2007. Teams Eighteen teams played in the 2006–07 season. Four teams were from Moldova (Romanian region), Moldova, four clubs from Transylvania, one from Northern Dobruja, Dobruja and nine from Wallachia four of them coming from the country's capital city Bucharest. Pandurii Târgu Jiu had been relegated at the end of the 2005-06 Divizia A, previous season but they re-entered Liga I at the expense of Sportul Studenţesc which has been relegated to Liga II due to financial problems. UEFA Coefficient
In European football, the UEFA coefficients are statistics based in weighted arithmetic means used for ranking and seeding teams in club and international competitions. Introduced in 1979 for men's football tournaments (country rankings only), and after applied in women's football and futsal, the coefficients are calculated by UEFA, who administer football within Europe, and the Asian parts of some transcontinental countries. 1909–10 Divizia A
The 1909–10 Divizia A was the first season of Divizia A, the top-level football league of Romania. It was contested by only three teams, and Olympia București were crowned champions of the inaugural edition. Background In Romania, football was introduced near the beginning of the twentieth century. The first football association in Romania is founded in October 1909 under the name ASAR (acronym for ''Asociaţiunea Societăţilor Atletice din România'', which roughly translates as ''Association of Romanian Athletic Societies''). Promotion And Relegation
Promotion and relegation is used by sports leagues as a process where teams can move up and down among divisions in a league system, based on their performance over a season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are sometimes called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in a lower division are ''promoted'' to a higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. During the season, teams that are high enough in the league table that they would qualify for promotion are sometimes said to be in the ''promotion zone'', and those at the bottom are in the ''relegation zone'' (colloquially the ''drop zone'' or ''facing the drop'').
