1909–10 Divizia A
The 1909–10 Divizia A was the first season of Divizia A, the top-level football league of Romania. It was contested by only three teams, and Olympia București were crowned champions of the inaugural edition. Background In Romania, football was introduced near the beginning of the twentieth century. The first football association in Romania is founded in October 1909 under the name ASAR (acronym for ''Asociaţiunea Societăţilor Atletice din România'', which roughly translates as ''Association of Romanian Athletic Societies''). ASAR had three founding clubs: Olympia and Colentina București from Bucharest and United Ploiești from Ploiești. This three clubs, which consisted mainly of non-Romanian players, contested the first three edition of the Romanian football league. Divizia A
Liga I (; ''First League''), also spelled as Liga 1 and officially known as SuperLiga for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Romania and the highest level of the Romanian football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation from and to Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table. Liga I was established in 1909 and commenced play for the 1909–10 Divizia A, 1909–10 campaign, being currently 25th in UEFA's UEFA coefficient#League coefficient, league coefficient ranking list. It is administered by the Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal, also known by the acronym LPF. Olympia București
Olympia București was a football club based in Bucharest, in southern Romania. It was founded in 1904 and it soon became one of the best teams in the country, winning two Romanian Championships. The club was dissolved in 1946. History The first football club from Bucharest, founded in October 1904 by young foreigners and a few Romanians from which we can mention: M. Gebauer, L. Breyer, Th. Davilla, the Grunberg brothers, prof. Ioanide, Szalay, Mendel. The club's first president was Mario Gebauer, Lazăr Breyer was the secretary, and capitan of the team Gh. Viereck. The football pitch was the one from ''Bolta rece'' (near the Triumphal arch today). Ploiești ( , , ), formerly spelled Ploești, is a Municipiu, city and county seat in Prahova County, Romania. Part of the historical region of Muntenia, it is located north of Bucharest.
