''LazyTown'' () is an Icelandic children's educational musical television series created by aerobics champion Magnús Scheving. Originally produced in English, it has been broadcast in dozens of languages globally. Designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, the series was based on Scheving's stage play '' Áfram Latibær!'', itself adapted from a book that Scheving wrote in 1995. The series was commissioned by Nickelodeon in early 2003, following the production of two stage plays and a test pilot. Originally performed in English, it was later dubbed into thirty languages and broadcast in over 180 countries. It combines live action, puppetry and computer animation, making it one of the most expensive children's shows, with the cost per episode being over five times that of the average children's show. Magnús Örn Eyjólfsson Scheving (; born 10 November 1964) is an Icelandic writer, television producer, entrepreneur, actor, and former athlete. He is best known as the creator of the children's television show '' LazyTown'', on which he served as a producer, director, and portrayed the character Sportacus. A two–time European champion in aerobic gymnastics, he was named the Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year in 1994. Stefán Karl Stefánsson
Stefán Karl Stefánsson ( , ; 10 July 1975 – 21 August 2018) was an Icelandic actor and singer. He was best known for portraying Robbie Rotten, the antagonist of the children's television series ''LazyTown''. Career Stefán Karl's career started in 1994 at the age of 19, when he worked as a puppeteer for television. During his years as a puppeteer, he had also been studying at the Drama Academy of Iceland. However, he was unsatisfied with the perspectives of Icelandic drama standards. He recalled that his principal at his high school said that "acting is not about making faces and changing your face", which he disagreed with. Later, Stefán Karl was invited by Magnús Scheving, an Icelandic gymnast, to portray one of the characters in the second ''LazyTown'' play. LTS Garðbær Studios (also known as LazyTown Entertainment) is an Icelandic studio located in Garðabær, Iceland, which succeeded Lazy Shows (founded in 1992). The studio's productions included television series ''LazyTown''. The studio was founded in 2002 by Magnús Scheving and his partners Guðmundur Þór Kárason, Raymond P. Le Gué and Ragnheiður Melsteð. ''Áfram Latibær!'' (English: ''Go Go LazyTown!'') is an Icelandic children's stage play by Magnús Scheving, based on his Icelandic book of the same name. The play premiered in 1996 in Loftkastalinn and was very popular. Mark Valenti is an Emmy-nominated American writer known for movies, TV series and novels. Career biography Valenti began his entertainment career as an actor with the St. Louis theatrical troupe the City Players. Guðmundur Þór Kárason (born 14 June 1974) is an Icelandic puppet designer and puppeteer who is best known for his work on ''LazyTown'', in which he portrayed the character Ziggy. Early life Guðmundur Þór Kárason was born on 14 June 1974 in Reykjavík, Iceland, to director Kári H. Þórsson and visual artist Jenný E. Guðmundsdóttir.
