Lars Törnman
Lars Törnman (born 6 May 1951) is a Swedish mine worker, trade union leader, politician, municipal commissioner, and mayor of Kiruna in 1994–2003 and 2008–2010 (sharing the latter post in 1998–2002 and 2008–2010). Törnman was born in Kiruna, Norrbotten County. He was a devoted Social Democrat until his founding of the Kiruna Party in 1994 and again since 2010. He made a failed attempt to reach the Riksdag of Sweden by running his Kiruna Party jointly with another local party as the Norrbotten Party (falling, with 9.1% of the vote, roughly three points short of the 12% threshold which would have allowed for a parliamentary seat for Törnman). During the 1990s and early 2000s the Kiruna Party was the dominant political force of Kiruna, dropping the Social Democrats with over a fifth of the electorate in its first showing in 1994. Kiruna
(; ; ; ) is the northernmost Stad (Sweden), city in Sweden, situated in the province of Lapland, Sweden, Lapland. It had 17,002 inhabitants in 2016 and is the seat of Kiruna Municipality (population: 23,167 in 2016) in Norrbotten County. The city was originally built in the 1890s to serve the Kiruna Mine. The Esrange Space Center was established in Kiruna in the 1960s. Norrbotten County
Norrbotten County (, Meänkieli/, ) is the northernmost county or '' län'' of Sweden. It is also the largest county by land area, almost a quarter of Sweden's total area. It shares borders with Västerbotten County to the southwest, the Gulf of Bothnia to the southeast, the counties of Nordland and Troms in Norway to the northwest, and Lapland Province in Finland to the northeast. The name "Norrbotten" is also used for a province of the same name. Kirunapartiet () was a local political party in Kiruna Municipality, Sweden. It was founded in 1994 as a splinter group of the local branch of the Social Democrats and was led by Lars Törnman from 1994 until 2010, when Törnman left the party for the Social Democrats. Norrbotten Party
The Norbotten Party (''Norrbottenspartiet'') was a minor, regional party in Sweden. The base of the party was in the most northern Swedish province, Norrbotten County, and in the local and regional parties, the Kiruna Party and the Norrbotten Healthcare Party. In the 2002 Swedish general elections the Kiruna and NHP parties agreed to attempt parliamentary representation in the Swedish Riksdag by running as a joint alternative, trying to reach the county's 4% threshold for representation in the national parliament. The party received 0.28% of the vote, and thus didn't get representation in the Riksdag. The party dissolved shortly afterwards. Norrbotten (), sometimes called North Bothnia, is a Swedish province (''landskap'') in northernmost Sweden. It borders south to Västerbotten, west to Swedish Lapland, and east to Finland. Administration The traditional provinces of Sweden serve no administrative or political purposes, but are historical and cultural entities. ''Norrbottens-Kuriren'' (simply ''NK'') is a daily regional conservative newspaper published in Norrbotten County, Sweden, and has its main office in Luleå.
