Lanterna Mágica
Lanterna is a musical project led by guitarist Henry Frayne, formerly of Lodestone Destiny, The Syndicate, Ack-Ack, Area and The Moon Seven Times. Their tracks are evocative soundscapes, usually instrumental, that focus on Frayne's melodic guitar work awash in effects. History The first material released under the name Lanterna was a collaboration between Frayne, drummer Brendan Gamble and vocalist Lynn Canfield which the band self-released in 1992. Some of these tracks reappeared later that year on the Greek vinyl-only, Elfish label release ''Of Shapes That Haunt Thought's Wilderness''. The recordings were re-released on both Parasol Records and Rykodisc in 1995 and 1998, respectively. The Rykodisc version led off with the song "Silent Hills." The track later appeared on the first disc of National Public Radio's "All Songs Considered" CD series, which collected songs used as interstitial music during All Things Considered. Instrumental Rock
Instrumental rock is rock music that emphasizes instrumental performance and features very little or no singing. Examples of instrumental music in rock can be found in practically every subgenre of the style. Instrumental rock was most popular from the mid-1950s to mid-1960s, with artists such as Bill Doggett Combo, The Fireballs, The Shadows, The Ventures, Johnny and the Hurricanes and The Spotnicks. Post-rock
Post-rock is a subgenre of experimental rock that emphasizes Texture (music), texture, atmosphere, and non-traditional song structures over conventional rock techniques. New-age is a genre of music intended to create artistic inspiration, relaxation, and optimism. Henry Frayne (musician)
Henry David Frayne (born January 26, 1965) is an Irish-American musician. Frayne was the second guitarist of three in the long history of Champaign, Illinois' Ack-Ack, where he met Lynn Canfield, Brendan Gamble, Steve Shields and Joe Strell. He was a founding member of Area and The Moon Seven Times — new wave/ethereal music groups also from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. The Moon Seven Times was signed to Third Mind Records, which subsequently became part of Roadrunner Records (later to become a part of Warner Music Group.) The Moon Seven Times recorded three CDs before being dropped by Roadrunner Records in 1997. Frayne went back to a side project recorded in 1991 and released '' Lanterna'', an instrumental album of driving shoegazing material featuring The Moon Seven Times sonographer Brendan Gamble on drums and lyrics on "Down by the Seine" by Lynn Canfield. Brendan Gamble
Brendan Gamble (born 1966) is an American singer-songwriter, drummer, music producer, and audio engineer. A native of Urbana, Illinois, Gamble first appeared in the seminal new wave band ¡Ack-Ack! with vocalist Lynn Canfield and guitarist Henry Frayne, and played on their 1985 single, "Another Face". He replaced the original drummer of the post-hardcore/indie rock group Poster Children in 1988 and appeared on their first widely-released album, '' Flower Plower''. After Gamble's departure from Poster Children, he resumed working with Frayne on early material for a project that would later be named Lanterna. Around the same time, Canfield joined Frayne and Gamble along with bassist Don Gerard to form a new group called the Moon Seven Times. The band was signed to Third Mind Records, which later became part of Roadrunner Records, and recorded three albums before being dropped by the label in 1997. Rykodisc is an American record label owned by Warner Music Group, operating as a unit of WMG's Independent Label Group and distributed through Alternative Distribution Alliance. History Claiming to be the first CD-only independent record label in the United States, Rykodisc was founded in 1984 in music, January 1984 in Cannes, France, by Arthur Mann, Rob Simonds, Doug Lexa and Don Rose.
