''L.A. (Light Album)'' is the 23rd studio album by the American rock band the Beach Boys, released on March 16, 1979, and their first issued through Sony Music, CBS Records. Recorded during a period of acrimony between the band members, it was a critical and commercial failure, peaking at number 100 in the U.S. and number 32 in the UK. The album largely consists of solo recordings by the individual band members, including two from Dennis Wilson ("Love Surrounds Me" and "Baby Blue") that were lifted from his unreleased second solo album, ''Bambu (album), Bambu''. Brian Wilson was not present for much of the ''L.A.'' sessions. The production was credited to returning Beach Boy Bruce Johnston, the band itself, and their manager James William Guercio. The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys are an American Rock music, rock band formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian Wilson, Brian, Dennis Wilson, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine. Distinguished by their vocal harmonies, adolescent-oriented lyrics, and musical ingenuity, they are one of the most influential acts of the rock era. The group drew on the music of Traditional pop, older pop vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and black R&B to create their unique sound. Bambu (album)
''Bambu'' is an unfinished studio album by American songwriter-musician and Beach Boys co-founder Dennis Wilson and American songwriter-musician Carli Muñoz, intended as the follow-up to his debut '' Pacific Ocean Blue''. In 2008, recordings from the album were compiled as bonus tracks for the first CD issue of ''Pacific Ocean Blue''. In 2017, the same track selection was given a dedicated release, titled ''Bambu (The Caribou Sessions)''. Background Dennis Wilson began production of ''Bambu'' in 1978 at Brother Studios in Santa Monica. He collaborated with then Beach Boys keyboardist and close friend Carli Muñoz as songwriter and producer. The first four songs that were officially recorded for ''Bambu'' were Muñoz's compositions: "It's Not Too Late", "Constant Companion", "All Alone", and "Under the Moonlight". Peter Ames Carlin (born March 14, 1963) is an American journalist, critic and biographer who has written for publications such as ''People'' magazine, ''The New York Times Magazine'', '' The Los Angeles Times Magazine'', and ''The Oregonian''. Rocky Pamplin
Rushton Pamplin (August 3, 1949 – December 10, 2022) was an American model who, together with Stan Love, was employed as a bodyguard and caretaker for the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson from 1977 to 1979. Background Rushton Pamplin was born in 1949 in Youngstown, Ohio. He attended Newark High School in Newark, California. He attended the University of Oregon and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where he played college football as a running back. He was drafted in 1971 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints, chosen 5th in the 10th round (239th overall), but did not play in an NFL game, being cut in preseason. Despite reports to the contrary, there is no evidence that Pamplin played for the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes, as his name appears nowhere on their rosters for the relevant period. ''Pacific Ocean Blue'' is the only solo studio album by American musician Dennis Wilson, co-founder of the Beach Boys. When released in August 1977, it was warmly received critically, and noted for outselling the Beach Boys' contemporary efforts. Two singles were issued from the album, " River Song" and " You and I", which did not chart. The album remains a focal point of Wilson's legacy, being referred to as a "classic". Mike Love
Michael Edward Love (born March 15, 1941) is an American singer and songwriter who is one of the vocalists of the Beach Boys, of which he was an original member alongside his cousins Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, and Carl Wilson and their friend Al Jardine. He is the band's only constant member, appearing on all its albums, and following the death of Brian Wilson, he became the last-surviving familial co-founder. Al Jardine
Alan Charles Jardine (born September 3, 1942) is an American musician who co-founded the Beach Boys. He is best known as the band's rhythm guitarist, background vocalist, and for occasionally singing lead vocals on singles such as number-one hit "Help Me, Rhonda" (1965), "Then I Kissed Her" (1965), "Cotton Fields#The Beach Boys cover, Cottonfields" (1970), and a cover of the Del-Vikings' "Come Go with Me" (1981). His song "Lady Lynda" was also a UK top 10 hit for the group in 1979. Carl Wilson
Carl Dean Wilson (December 21, 1946 – February 6, 1998) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter who co-founded the Beach Boys. He was their lead guitarist, the youngest sibling of bandmates Brian Wilson, Brian and Dennis Wilson, Dennis, and the group's ''de facto'' leader in the early to mid-1970s. He was also the band's musical director on stage from 1965 until his death.
