Kashinka River
The Kashinka () is a river in Kesovogorsky and Kashinsky Districts of Tver Oblast, Russia, a left tributary of the Volga (joining the Volga at the Uglich Reservoir, near the town of Kalyazin). The length of the river is , and the area of its drainage basin is . The town of Kashin and the urban-type settlement of Kesova Gora are located along the Kashinka. The source of the Kashinka is in the swamps northwest of the village of Zadorye, at the border of Kesovogorsky and Bezhetsky Districts. It flows east, passes Kesova Gora, and in the village of Brylino turns south. It passes Kashin, where it makes a loop. The historical part of the town is located within the loop of the Kashinka. Further south, it becomes a part of the Uglich Reservoir. Kesova Gora
Kesova Gora (russian: Ке́сова Гора́) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) and the administrative center of Kesovogorsky District of Tver Oblast, Russia, located from Kashin and from Bezhetsk. Population: History Kesova Gora was known since approximately 1238, and it apparently was formed from a combination various smaller settlements: Krasny, Zaychy, and Grachi. Originally, the settlement was called Kyasova Gora, meaning "clay-filled region" in Finnish. For a long time, it was a ''votchina'' of the Prozorovsky noble family. One of the most important landmarks of the settlement is the still-functioning Saint Nicholas Church. In the course of the administrative reform carried out in 1708 by Peter the Great, Kesova Gora was included into Ingermanland Governorate (known since 1710 as Saint Petersburg Governorate), but in 1727 it was transferred to Moscow Governorate. Uglich Reservoir
Uglich Reservoir or Uglichskoye Reservoir (russian: У́гличское водохрани́лище) is an artificial lake in the upper part of the Volga River formed by the Uglich Hydroelectric Station dam. It was built in 1939 in the town of Uglich. It is located in Tver and Yaroslavl Oblasts in central Russia. Description The Uglich Reservoir has a surface area of 249 km2 and a water volume of 1.2 km3. Its length is 143 km, it maximum width is 5 km, and average depth is 5 m (with maximum depth equaling 23 m). The Uglich Reservoir was created for the benefit of transportation, energy, and water supply. It also performs seasonal flow regulation. Kalyazin (russian: Каля́зин) is a town and the administrative center of Kalyazinsky District in Tver Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Volga River, northeast of Tver, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: History A ''sloboda'' (a settlement for people relieved from paying taxes) appeared on the site of modern Kalyazin in the 12th century. Its importance grew significantly with the foundation of the Makaryevsky Monastery on the opposite bank of the Volga in the 15th century. Kashin (town)
Kashin (russian: Ка́шин) is a town and the administrative center of Kashinsky District in Tver Oblast, Russia, located around a rural agricultural area on the Kashinka River (Volga's tributary). Population: 18,000 (1970). History Kashin was first mentioned in a chronicle under the year of 1238, when it was sacked during the Mongol invasion. It was given by Grand Duke Mikhail Yaroslavich as an appanage to his son Vasily, who founded a short-lived dynasty of local princes.
