Kári Marísson
Kári Marísson (born 20 November 1951) is an Icelandic former multi-sport athlete and basketball coach. He played and coached basketball for several decades and was the oldest player to have played in the Icelandic top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Úrvalsdeild karla, at the age of 49 years, until the record was broken by Baldur Þorleifsson in 2015. Early life Kári grew up in Árbær in Reykjavík where he competed in pole vault and Association football, football. Basketball Playing career Kári played his first game in with Valur men's basketball, KFR in 1967. In 1975, he left the club, which by that time was named Valur, and signed with Njarðvík men's basketball, Njarðvík. He left Njarðvík at the conclusion of the 1977–78 season and later joined Tindastóll men's basketball, Tindastóll. Valur Men's Basketball
The Valur men's basketball team, commonly known as Valur, is a basketball team based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Valur (club), Valur multi-sport club. History The club was founded as ''Gosi'' on 25 December 1951 and was one of the founding members of the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Icelandic men's top division. On 22 December 1957 the club changed its name to ''Körfuknattleiksfélag Reykjavíkur'' (English: Reykjavík Basketball Club) and played under that name until 1970. On 3 October 1970 the club merged into Valur (club), Valur sports club and became its basketball department. Under the new name, Valur had considerable success in the 1980s, winning the Icelandic championship two times, in 1980 and 1983, and the Icelandic cup three times, 1980, 1981 and 1983. Úrvalsdeild Karla (football)
The Besta deild karla () is a professional association football league in Iceland and the highest level of the Icelandic football league system. The competition was founded in 1912 as the Icelandic Championship. Because of the harsh winters in Iceland, it is generally played in the spring and summer (April to September). It is governed by the Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ) and has 12 teams. By the end of the 2022–23 season, UEFA ranked the league No. 48 in Europe. From 27 April 2009 to 2022, the league had an active agreement on the league's name rights with Ölgerðin, the Icelandic franchisee for Pepsi. Kristín Björk Jónsdóttir
Kristín Björk Jónsdóttir (born 7 February 1974) is an Icelandic former basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national basketball team. She was the captain of the KR team that won back-to-back national championships in 2001 and 2002. In 2001 she was named the Icelandic Women's Basketball Player of the Year and the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year. Playing career Kristín started playing basketball at the age of 14 with the junior teams of Tindastóll. She joined KR at the age of 17 and soon started playing with its senior team in the Icelandic top-tier league. She helped KR to its first major title in 12 years when it won the Icelandic Cup on 6 February 1999.
