Kwinana Beach is an outer southwestern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kwinana. It is one of the traditional industrial suburbs in the Perth metropolitan region. History Kwinana is originally a local indigenous Australian word meaning either "young woman" or "pretty maiden". The ship was wrecked on Cockburn Sound in 1922, and blown on to the beach. The nearby area acquired the name ''Kwinana Beach'' when the local postmistress, Clara Wells, immediately started labeling the mail sacks ''Kwinana Wreck'', to distinguish the settlement there from Rockingham, to the south. Kwinana Beach was officially adopted as a township in 1937. City Of Kwinana
The City of Kwinana is a local government area of Western Australia. It covers an area of approximately 118 square kilometres in metropolitan Perth, and lies about 38 km south of the Perth central business district, via the Kwinana Freeway. Kwinana maintains 287 km of roads and had a population of 45,867 at the 2021 Census. History Kwinana is a Kimberley Aboriginal word meaning either "young woman" or "pretty maiden". Rockingham Road, Perth
Rockingham Road is a major road between Fremantle and Kwinana in the southern suburbs of Perth. It is allocated National Route 1 – part of Australia's national Highway 1 – between Stock Road in Munster and its southern terminus in Kwinana. The first part of Rockingham Road is a main road and suburban distributor that goes from the southern edge of Fremantle into Hamilton Hill and Spearwood, passing the Phoenix Park shopping centre and the offices of the City of Cockburn. It then leaves the urban area (but not the metropolitan area). Patterson Road is a major road between Kwinana and Rockingham and is part of Australia's National Route 1 for part of its length. The first part goes through Kwinana's heavy industrial area. Fremantle Railway Station
Fremantle railway station is the terminus of Transperth's Fremantle line in Western Australia. History The original Fremantle station opened in Cliff Street on 1 March 1881 as the terminus of the Eastern Railway to Guildford via Perth. As the Eastern Railway was extended, its importance grew. It became an important hub for gold miners arriving in Western Australia via ship and then travelling to the Yilgarn and Eastern Goldfields when the line opened to Kalgoorlie in 1896. In 1907, a new station and marshalling yards were established 300 metres to the north-east on the site of the former Fremantle Railway Workshops to better service the newly constructed Fremantle Harbour. The Claremont Speedway was a racing circuit in the grounds of the Claremont Showground in the suburb of Claremont in Western Australia's capital city of Perth. The speedway held its first meeting on 14 May 1927, and its final meeting on 31 March 2000. Perth Motorplex is a motorsport venue located at Kwinana Beach, Western Australia. It caters mainly for drag racing and speedway, although other events are held there regularly. Over 275,000 patrons attend the venue each year to many varied events. The Perth Motorplex holds rounds of the World Series Sprintcars championship. The 1955 ''Plan for the Metropolitan Region, Perth and Fremantle'' (also known as the ''Stephenson,'' or ''Stephenson-Hepburn Report'') was prepared for the Government of Western Australia by Gordon Stephenson and Alistair Hepburn. The plan was the first regional plan for Perth, and provided the basis for land use zoning under the Metropolitan Region Scheme. Even though not every recommendation of the report was adopted it is considered to have provided the underlying template for the modern development of Perth. The CBH Group (commonly known as CBH, an acronym for Co-operative Bulk Handling) is a grain growers' cooperative that handles, markets and processes grain from the wheatbelt of Western Australia. History CBH was formed on 5 April 1933, at a time when a royal commission on bulk handling of grain was in progress, and after over 20 years of failed proposals for bulk handling of grain in Western Australia. The trustees of the Wheat Board of Western Australia and Wesfarmers registered the company together with capital of £100,000 divided evenly into 100,000 shares.
