Kristófer Acox
Kristófer Acox (born 13 October 1993) is an Icelandic basketball player for Valur of the Úrvalsdeild karla and a member of the Icelandic national basketball team, with whom he participated in the EuroBasket 2017. As a member of KR, he won the Icelandic championship three times in a row from 2017 to 2019. In 2022, he added his fourth championship, this time with Valur and in 2023, he won the Icelandic Cup for the first time. Early years Kristófer was born on 13 October 1993 to Edna María Jacobsen, who is half Icelandic and half Faroese, and Terry Acox, an American basketball player who played professionally in Iceland with Körfuknattleiksfélag ÍA. The Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) is a biennial multi-sport event, launched by the Republic of San Marino, organized by and featuring the National Olympic Committees of nine European small state, small states since 1985. The Games are held at the end of May or beginning of June and feature competition in nine Summer Olympic sports. ''Morgunblaðið'' (, ''The Morning Paper'') is an Icelandic daily newspaper. ''Morgunblaðið''s website, mbl.is, is the most popular website in Iceland. It is currently the country's only daily printed newspaper and the newspaper of record. Körfuknattleiksfélag ÍA (), commonly known as ÍA, is a basketball team based in Akranes, Iceland. It is a subdivision of the sport club Íþróttabandalag Akraness. Terry Acox
Terrance L. Acox (born 1969) is an American former professional basketball player. Professional career In September 1992, Acox signed with Körfuknattleiksfélag ÍA in the Icelandic 1. deild karla where he became an instant fan favorite due to his 50-inch vertical leap and high flying dunks. On 29 November 1992, he broke the backboard with a dunk during a game against UMFB in Bolungarvík with 11 minutes remaining. With no replacement backboard, the head referee of the game, Leifur Garðarsson, decided to continue the game using the side baskets and forbade both teams to dunk for the rest of the game. In February 1993, Acox was selected to the Icelandic All-Star game where he scored 26 points. He also participated in the dunk contest which he went on to win convincingly. Despite his on-court dominance, ÍA released Acox in March 1993 prior to the seasons end. EuroBasket 2017
EuroBasket 2017 was the 40th edition of the EuroBasket championship that was organized by FIBA Europe and held between 31 August and 17 September 2017. Beginning from 2017, the continental championships take place every four years with a similar system of qualification as for the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Like the previous edition, the tournament was co-hosted by four countries. Games in the group stage were held in Turkey, Finland, Israel and Romania. The knock-out phase was played in Istanbul, Turkey. Slovenia won their first-ever tournament after defeating Serbia 93–85 in the final. Iceland Men's National Basketball Team
The Iceland men's national basketball team () represents Iceland in international basketball tournaments. The team is controlled by the Icelandic Basketball Association. Iceland has qualified for the EuroBasket three times in their history, with the national team making their first appearance in 2015. They have also participated at smaller European tournaments, such as the Games of the Small States of Europe. Recent history EuroBasket 2015 On 28 August 2014, Iceland qualified for the EuroBasket 2015, entering the finals of the top European competition for the first time in its history. The Valur men's basketball team, commonly known as Valur, is a basketball team based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Valur (club), Valur multi-sport club. History The club was founded as ''Gosi'' on 25 December 1951 and was one of the founding members of the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Icelandic men's top division.
