The History of the Kalenjin people, Kalenjin is a group of tribes indigenous to East Africa, residing mainly in what was formerly the Rift Valley Province in Kenya and the eastern slopes of Mount Elgon in Uganda. Gladys Cherono Kiprono (born 12 May 1983) is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes in track and road running events. She became the first woman to win both the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres at the African Championships in 2012. Richard Kiprono Mibey (born 12 December 1951) is a Kenyan academic, research scientist and university administrator. Mibey served as the vice-chancellor of Moi University, the second university to be established in Kenya between 2006 and 2016. He is a professor of mycology with over 35 years teaching and scholarly experience. He has extensive knowledge and experience in the higher education system, having grown from a graduate assistant, research assistant, lecturer, senior lecturer, associate professor, professor, department chairman, dean, campus principal as well as deputy vice-chancellor. Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot (born August 10, 1988) is a Kenyan marathon runner. He is known as a "true marathoner" who rarely races other distances. He finished fifth or better in the first four international marathons he has entered. Biography Hailing from Bomet in Kenya's Rift Valley Province, Cheruiyot's international debut was at the 2008 Frankfurt Marathon. Since he was not experienced, he had to purchase his own way and turn in a time under 2:14:00 to be reimbursed. He proceeded to surprise everyone, including himself, winning the race with a course record 2:07:21. In 2009, Cheruiyot finished fifth at the Alphen aan den Rijn and followed it up with a fifth-place finish at the 2009 Boston Marathon six weeks later with time of 2:10:06. He has a half marathon best of 1:01:05 and a 10K best of 27:28 minutes. After competing on the Kenyan junior cross country circuit to little success, Langat made his breakthrough in 2010 by winning the Administration Police National Cross Country Championships, having entered as a member of the public. On 18 April 2011 at the Boston Marathon, Mutai ran the fastest marathon ever at the time in a time of 2 hours 3 minutes 2 seconds (4:41 per mile pace / 2:54 per kilometer pace), though the time was not recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations as a world record since the Boston course does not meet the criteria to be eligible for the mark.
