Kipruto Rono Arap Kirwa (born 1957) is a Kenyan politician. Early life and education Kirwa was born in Tanganyika, currently Republic of Tanzania. His father Kiprono Arap Sirng'ewo was a great farmer and livestock keeper, who was among the Nandi people evicted from their fertile ancestral lands by the British colonialists in Nandi County to pave the way for white settlers to develop the area that became the white Highlands in the Rift Valley. The late colonial senior chief Elijah Cheruiyot oversaw the issuing of the temporary British permit that allowed the families to enter the northern Tanganyika, settling in Mara, Musoma, Bunda and Mwanza in 1951. His father begrudgingly settled there though he did not plan to live there for long. According to his parents, life had moved from bad to worse in their new unproductive foreign home. Rönö () is an island in Lake Kallavesi and also a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland. It is located about 2,5 kilometers southeast of Kuopio Market Square, measured along the street network. Since 1988, the island has been connected to Väinölänniemi by a bridge. Rönö is a sought-after residential area and is one of the most expensive areas in Kuopio, along with the archipelago estates in Saaristokaupunki. Only detached, semi-detached and terraced houses have been built there. Most of the island was built during the boom of art in the 1980s and 1990s, but houses have also been built in the 2000s, and a few estates are still completely undeveloped. Geoffrey Kipkoech Rono (born 4 April 1987) is a Kenyan distance runner who competed primarily in the 1500 metres and 800 metres. He won both events at the 2005 African Junior Athletics Championships, and is a former world record holder in the 4 × 1500 metres relay. Biography At the 2005 African Junior Athletics Championships, Rono swept the 800 m and 1500 m titles, winning in times of 1:47.10 and 3:42.76 respectively. The following year, Rono placed 4th at the 1500 metres at the World Junior Championships. Peter Kipchumba Rono (born 31 July 1967) is a former Kenyan athlete, who won the 1,500 metres at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Career Born in Kamobo village, near Kapsabet, Rono won the gold medal at the Africa Cross Country Championships in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1985 and in 1986 he was the silver medallist in the 1500m at the World Junior Championships in Athens, Greece. In 1987, he was a semi-finalist in the 1500m at the World Championships in Rome, Italy. He attended St. Patrick's High School, Iten where he was trained by Brother Colm O'Connell, an Irish Patrician missionary and headmaster of the school at that time. Alex Kipchirchir Rono (born 26 November 1984 in Sergoit, Uasin Gishu District) is a middle distance runner from Kenya. Career He graduated from Litein High School. He played football and basketball when still at school and did not take up athletics until December 2001, when he met Moses Tanui who persuaded him to become runner. Only seven months later he became World Junior Champion, in his first race outside Kenya. Henry Rono (born 12 February 1952, in Kapsabet) is a Kenyan retired track and field athlete who specialised in various long-distance running events. Although he never competed at the Olympics, Rono is remembered as one of the most prolific collegiate competitors in the history of track in the United States, as well as being the former record holder for the 3000 metres steeplechase for over a decade. Rono also set the world record for the 5000 metres twice, in 1978, then broke that record three years later.
