Kapasiwin () is a summer village in Alberta, Canada. It is located in the eastern shore of Wabamun Lake, south of Wabamun Lake Provincial Park and the Yellowhead Highway. The name derives from (), the Cree word for "campground". It was known as the Village of Wabamun Beach from 1913 to 1918 and was the first incorporated summer village in Alberta. History Kapasiwin was originally incorporated on October 25, 1913 as the Village of Wabamun Beach. It was renamed to the Village Municipality of Kepasiwin on August 28, 1918. Recognizing that the village acted like a summer village, the Province of Alberta officially incorporated it as the Summer Village of Kapasiwin on September 1, 1993. Yellowhead Highway
The Yellowhead Highway () is a major interprovincial highway in Western Canada that runs from Winnipeg west to Graham Island off the coast of British Columbia via Saskatoon and Edmonton. It stretches across the four western provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba and is part of the Trans-Canada Highway system and the larger National Highway System, but should not be confused with the more southerly, originally-designated Trans-Canada Highway. The highway was officially opened in 1970. Beginning in 1990, the green and white Trans-Canada logo is used to designate the roadway. Wabamun Lake
Wabamun Lake (sometimes spelled Wabumun) is one of the most heavily used lakes in Alberta, Canada. It lies west of Edmonton. It is long and wide, covers and is at its deepest, with somewhat clear water. Its name derives from the Cree language, Cree word for mirror, () a reference to the water of the lake. The name for the lake in the Stoney language is . Wabamun was reputedly the best freshwater whitefish, whitefish lake in the Edmonton area and is well known for its large northern pike, both of which were fished commercially during the early 20th century.
