Kalapi Award
The Kalapi Award (Gujarati:કલાપી ઍવોર્ડ) is an annual award given to Gujarati language, Gujarati ghazal poets. It was founded by the Indian National Theatre, INT Aditya Birla Centre for Performing Arts and Research. The award is named after Gujarati poet Kalapi, circa 1900 Thakor (prince) Sursinhji Takhtasinhji Gohil of Lathi State, Lathi state in Gujarat.. Ghazal
''Ghazal'' is a form of amatory poem or ode, originating in Arabic poetry that often deals with topics of spiritual and romantic love. It may be understood as a poetic expression of both the pain of loss, or separation from the beloved, and the beauty of love in spite of that pain. The ghazal form is ancient, tracing its origins to 7th-century Arabic poetry. Khalil Dhantejvi
Khalil Ismail Makrani (12 December 1935 – 4 April 2021), popularly known by his pen-name, Khalil Dhantejvi was a poet and novelist from Gujarat, India. He wrote poems in Gujarati and Urdu. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2022 by the government of India. Biography Khalil Dhantejvi was born as Khalil Ismail Makrani on 12 December 1935 at Dhantej, a village in Vadodara. He studied till 4th standard. He adopted his pen name Khalil Dhantejvi after his village Dhantej. He died on 4 April 2021 at Vadodara. Raeesh Maniar is a Gujarati language poet, translator, playwright, columnist, compere, lyricist and script writer from Gujarat, India. His significant works include ''Kafiyanagar'' (1989), ''Shabda Mara Swabhavma J Nathi'' (1998) and ''Aam Lakhvu Karave Alakh Ni Safar'' (2011). Nayan Desai
Nayan H. Desai (22 February 1946 – 12 October 2023) was a Gujarati language poet from Gujarat, India. His significant work includes ''Manas Urfe Reti Urfe Dariyo'' (1979), ''Mukam Post Manas'' (1983), and ''Dhoop Ka Saya'' (ghazals in Urdu). He received the Kalapi Award in 2013 and the Kavishwar Dalpatram Award in 2016. Biography Desai was born on 22 February 1946 in Kathodara, a town now in the Surat district, to Harshadray and Indumatiben. His family belonged to Valod. Harsh Brahmbhatt (born 1954) is a Gujarati language poet and writer from Gujarat, India. He has also made significant contributions to the Urdu ghazal form. He is a recipient of several awards, including the Shayda Award, Kalapi Award, Kumar Suvarna Chandrak and Dhanji Kanji Gandhi Suvarna Chandrak.
