John Winston Foran
John Winston Foran (born March 13, 1952) was a New Brunswick politician and retired police officer. He was a member of Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick representing the electoral district of Miramichi Centre. Early life Foran was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, Canada. He was a member of the local school board and of the Newcastle municipal council for four terms, including service as deputy mayor and acting mayor prior to Newcastle becoming a part of the City of Miramichi. When Miramichi became a city, Foran was made the superintendent of the Miramichi Police Force, having previously been the chief of police for Chatham. Political career He served on Newcastle town council from 1986 to 1995. Newcastle is an urban neighbourhood in the city of Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to municipal amalgamation in 1995, it was an incorporated town and the shire town of Northumberland County. Situated on the north bank of the Miramichi River, the former town is sometimes referred to as Miramichi West. Being a former shire town, Newcastle is the location of several government offices and the county court house. It was an important transportation centre as it was located at the head of navigation on the Miramichi River and had wharves for the export of lumber and other forest products. During the mid-1870s the Intercolonial Railway was built through the town, placing it on the mainline between Halifax and Montreal. Wayne Steeves
O. Wayne Steeves (born December 12, 1944) is a politician in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. Steeves was born in Lower Coverdale, New Brunswick, the son of Noel Steeves and Vera Downing. A Progressive Conservative, he has been a candidate for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick for the electoral district of Albert in every election since 1991. Defeated in 1991 and 1995, Steeves was finally elected in 1999. He was re-elected in 2003 and joined the cabinet as minister of public safety. He was again re-elected in 2006 but left the cabinet as his party formed the opposition. The 2014 New Brunswick general election was held on September 22, 2014, to elect 49 members to the 58th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, the governing house of the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The 2013 redistribution reduced the size of the legislature from 55 seats to 49. Miramichi Bay-Neguac (french: Baie-de-Miramichi-Neguac) is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was formerly known more simply as Miramichi Bay. The riding was created from part of the multi-member Northumberland riding, and was first contested in 1974. At the 2013 boundary adjustment, the riding moved western and inland taking in the northeast parts of the City of Miramichi and rural areas to the north and west of the city. The riding's previous representative in the Legislative Assembly was Carmel Robichaud of the Liberal Party. Shawn Michael Graham (born February 22, 1968) is a Canadian politician, who served as the 31st premier of New Brunswick from 2006 to 2010. The 2006 New Brunswick general election was held on September 18, 2006, to elect 55 members to the 56th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, the governing house of the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The campaign came earlier than expected: the incumbent Premier of New Brunswick, Bernard Lord, had pledged a vote would be held on October 15, 2007 but when the ruling Progressive Conservatives faced a loss of its majority in the legislature, Lord said he did not want to face a minority government and, moreover, feared that a by-election could tip the balance of power to the opposition Liberals. The Department of Justice and Public Safety in the Canadian province of New Brunswick was formed when Premier Brian Gallant restructured government departments in 2016. It was a merger of all of the former Department of Public Safety with most of the former Department of Justice with the exception of the responsibilities for financial consumer services which transferred from Justice to the Department of Finance.
