Jyväskylä Central Station
Jyväskylä Central Station, also known as Jyväskylä Travel Center (Finnish: ''Jyväskylän matkakeskus'') is a transportation hub located in the city of Jyväskylä, Finland. The station is the city's main train station as well its main long-distance bus terminal. History Passenger traffic started at Jyväskylä on 1 November 1897, when the railway track from Haapamäki was built and Jyväskylä was added to the Finnish railway network. The track to Suolahti was opened in 1898, and later extended to Äänekoski and Haapajärvi. Another line was opened to Pieksämäki in 1918. The current track layout dates from 1977, when a new line was opened between Jämsänkoski and Jyväskylä to ease traffic between Haapajärvi and Jyväskylä. Passenger traffic started on the new line in May 1978. Jämsänkoski is a former List of cities and towns in Finland, town and List of former municipalities of Finland, municipality of Finland in the Central Finland region. It is located near Lake Päijänne and the Jämsänjoki river. The town had a population of 7,351 in 2008. It covered an area of 448.67 km² of which 48.02 km² is water. Jyväskylä Rail Accident
The Jyväskylä derailment occurred on 6 March 1998 in Jyväskylä, Finland, when the VR Class Sr1, Sr1-driven express train P105 from Turku railway station, Turku bound for Joensuu railway station, Joensuu via Pieksämäki railway station, Pieksämäki derailed. Thure Hellström
Thure Adolf Hellström (30 May 1880 – 23 December 1946) was a Finnish architect working on railroad stations for Rautatiehallitus (The Railroad Board) with Bruno Granholm. Hellström was born in Koivisto. He designed wooden railway station buildings at Kemi - Rovaniemi, Joensuu-Nurmes, Seinäjoki-Kaskinen, Perälä-Kristinestad, Pieksämäki-Savonlinna and Sciences-Pieksämäki. His early style was Art Nouveau, but he also designed Neoclassical station buildings. Later, he designed more substantial buildings in stone such as Hämeenlinna, Ore, Kuopio, Pori, Riihimäki railway stations, and in 1935 in brick, Gulf station. He died in Helsinki. Bruno Granholm
Bruno Ferdinand Granholm (May 14, 1857 in Myrskylä – September 29, 1930) was a Finnish architect. He served as the chief architect of Rautatiehallitus (The Railroad Board) between 1892 and 1926. Many of the station buildings he designed are still in use today, having aged surprisingly well. Granholm designed the station buildings for the Haapamäki–Jyväskylä, Jyväskylä– Suolahti, Helsinki–Turku, Kuopio–Iisalmi, Oulu–Tornio, Iisalmi–Kajaani and Savonlinna– Elisenvaara tracks.
