Juan Emilio Viguié Jr.
Juan Emilio Viguié, Jr. was a Puerto Rican visual entertainment producer and entrepreneur. Credited with the development of the film industry as an enterprise in Puerto Rico in the early 1950s and continuing his work for over five decades, Viguié, Jr. produced, directed, and photographed short films, documentaries, and television commercials for the local and mainland US markets. Early years Born April 4, 1923, in the Island's southern city of Ponce, he was the eldest son of Puerto Rican film pioneer Juan Emilio Viguié Cajas, who among many other accomplishments in the film industry, also produced, directed and photographed “Romance Tropical” (1934), the Island's first full-length feature film with sound and the second Spanish language film with sound in the world. Telemundo (; formerly NetSpan) is an American Spanish-language terrestrial television network owned by NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, a division of NBCUniversal, which in turn is a wholly owned subsidiary of Comcast. ''El Mundo'' () is a Puerto Rican newspaper founded in 1919 by Romualdo Real. Its slogan was "Verdad y Justicia" (Truth and Justice). In 1929, former corrector-turned-administrator Angel Ramos and journalist José Coll Vidal, bought the newspaper when Real retired. In 1944 Ramos became the sole owner of the newspaper. Acquisitions ''El Mundo'' acquired WKAQ AM, the oldest radio station on the island, and later added WKAQ-TV channel 2. ''El Mundo'' also established WKAQ-FM, but it is unknown if the current station at 104.7 MHz was part of the operation in the Ramos days. The paper's radio operations were owned by "El Mundo Broadcasting", and the television station was owned by Telemundo; the Telemundo name would later be used by a mainland group of stations for the namesake Telemundo network now owned by NBC Universal, which also owns WKAQ-TV. WKAQ-TV (channel 2) is a television station in San Juan, Puerto Rico, serving as the U.S. territory's dual Telemundo and NBC outlet. It is owned and operated by the Telemundo Station Group subsidiary of NBCUniversal. WKAQ-TV's studios are located on Franklin Roosevelt Avenue in San Juan near Hiram Bithorn Stadium, and its transmitter is located on Cerro la Santa in Cayey near the Carite State Forest. Ángel Ramos (industrialist)
Ángel Ramos Torres (December 3, 1902 – September 1, 1960) was a Puerto Rican industrialist. He entered during high school years as a typesetter, and went on to become the owner of the newspaper. He also founded Radio El Mundo and WKAQ-TV Telemundo. Early years Ramos was born into a poor family in the northern town of Manatí, Puerto Rico. He was the only son born to Juan Ramón Ramos Vélez and Braulia Torres Giliberty, and only 3 years old when his father died. He was raised by his mother and an aunt, and finished his primary education. However in 1917, at age 15 years, he felt that in Manati he didn't have a future and so left his home; he then moved to San Juan, the capital city of Puerto Rico. While living in San Juan, he went to school at the Central High School and found a job at , a then-recently founded newspaper. He started as a typesetter. Jayuya Uprising
The Jayuya Uprising, also known as Jayuya Revolt or Cry of Jayuya (), was a Nationalist insurrection that took place on October 30, 1950, in the town of Jayuya, Puerto Rico. The insurrection, led by Blanca Canales, was one of the multiple insurrections that occurred throughout Puerto Rico on that day against the Puerto Rican government supported by the United States.
