João Batista Queiroz
João Batista Queiroz is a Brazilian comics artist and illustrator. He started his career working as an illustrator in the magazines of the La Selva group. In the 1950s, he was responsible for the comic books of popular personalities at the time, such as the clown duos Arrelia & Pimentinha and Fuzarca & Torresmo and the actors Grande Otelo and Oscarito. In the 1970s, he created the children's character Zuzuca for the publication ''Álbum Infantil''. In the 1980s, he worked with the comic book of the comedy group Os Trapalhões. Prêmio Angelo Agostini For Master Of National Comics
Master of National Comics () is one of the categories of Prêmio Angelo Agostini, the most traditional Brazilian award dedicated to comics that has been held since 1985 by Associação dos Quadrinhistas e Caricaturistas do Estado de São Paulo (AQC-ESP). History The "Master of National Comics" category has been part of Prêmio Angelo Agostini since its first edition, in 1985. It is aimed to reward artists who have been dedicated to Brazilian comics for at least 25 years. The four honorees of this first edition were chosen by AQC-ESP board. The following year, the winners were elected by open vote for members of AQC-ESP and comics artists associations from other Brazilian states (and, later, for any interested person, whether comics professionals or readers). The Angelo Agostini's 18th edition, in 2002, exceptionally awarded 13 people as "Master of National Comics" instead of the traditional three names. Grande Otelo
Grande Otelo (October 18, 1915 – November 26, 1993) was the stage name of Brazilian actor, comedian, singer, and composer Sebastião Bernardes de Souza Prata. Otelo was born in Uberlândia, and was orphaned as a child. He kept running away from the families that adopted him; only when he took up art did his life become settled. Grande Otelo started his film career in 1935 in the movie ''Noites Cariocas''. He was also renowned for the comic duo he formed with Oscarito. He died, aged 78, in Charles de Gaulle Airport near Paris and was buried in São Pedro cemetery in Uberlândia, Brazil. Grande Otelo is depicted in the 2023 biographical documentary film ''Othelo, o Grande'', by Lucas H. Rossi dos Santos. Oscarito, stage name of Oscar Lorenzo Jacinto de la Inmaculada Concepción Teresa Diaz (August 16, 1906 – August 4, 1970) was a Spanish-Brazilian actor, considered to be one of the most popular comedians of Brazil. Life Born in a family of circus comedians, came to Brazil when he was one year old, but only became a naturalized citizen in 1949. Made his debut in the circus at age five in 1914, where he learned to play the violin, besides being a clown, trapeze artist, acrobat and actor. Os Trapalhões
Os Trapalhões () was a Brazilian comedy group and a television series of the same name created by Wilton Franco. Its members Dedé Santana, Zacarias, Mussum and their leader Didi Mocó (Renato Aragão). The name ''Os Trapalhões'' (which can be translated as ''The Bumbling Ones'' or ''The Clumsy Ones'') is derived from the Portuguese verb ''atrapalhar'', which means the opposite of ''helping'', ''to do something the wrong way'' or ''to Those that confuse''. The name is translated "Tramps" in English DVD subtitles. It originally aired on Rede Tupi from 1973 to 1977 and the show later moved to Rede Globo and remained there from 1977 to 1995.
