José Gomes Ferreira
José Gomes Ferreira, GOSE, GOL (9 July 1900 – 1985) was a Portuguese poet and fiction writer with a vast work of varied influences. Gomes Ferreira was also a political activist who participated in the resistance against the dictatorship of Oliveira Salazar, becoming later a member of the Portuguese Communist Party. In the late 1970s he held the presidency of the Portuguese Writers Association. A native of Porto, Ferreira graduated in law in 1924 and became a consul in Norway in the late 1920s. Soon after, he became a journalist and published his works in several progressive magazines. After the rise of the right-wing dictatorship led by Salazar, Ferreira he acquainted himself with the democratic resistance movements. During the later years of the regime, he continued publishing and saw his poetic work recognized by his peers. José Pedro Gomes (born 28 December 1951, in Lisbon) is a Portugal, Portuguese actor, author and theatre director. He received formation at the Théâtre du Soleil (in 1970), at the ''Teatro da Cornucópia'', with professors of the Bristol Old Vic, Bristol Old Vic School (in 1981) and, in 1991, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, with Polina Klimovitskaya. In 1976, José Pedro Gomes began his professional activity, having worked with several groups, like Teatro Proposta, Teatro da Graça, Teatro da Cornucópia, Teatro O Bando, Teatro Aberto, and Comuna. He was also at the Centro Cultural de Belém and the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II. He is currently a regular presence in plays at the Teatro Villarett. José Manuel Martins Teixeira Gomes (born 28 August 1970) is a Portuguese professional football manager, currently in charge of Saudi Pro League club Al Fateh. He managed Paços de Ferreira, União de Leiria, Rio Ave, Marítimo and Chaves in the Primeira Liga, while also working in Hungary, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, England, Spain and Egypt. José Manuel Gomes da Silva (born 24 September 1976), commonly known as Zé Gomes, is a Portuguese former footballer who played as a right-back, currently manager of Indonesian club Arema. Joseph Oliver Gomes (; December 12, 1908 – February 9, 1986) was an American Negro league outfielder in the 1930s. A native of East Providence, Rhode Island of Cape Verdean descent, Gomes attended East Providence High School, where he was an all-state baseball player, leading the school to the state championship in 1928. He went on to attend Providence College, where he played baseball and football, but dropped out after a racist incident kept him off the field in a game against William and Mary.
