Jewels (Einstürzende Neubauten Album)
''Jewels'' is a supporter's album by Einstürzende Neubauten, completed in mid-2007. Instead of being released as a full album, it was released digitally one track at a time, available as website downloads only to subscribers of the Phase III Supporter Project, consisting of 15 "jewels" (as the band called them). Starting in March 2006, these downloadable tracks were released on or around the 15th of each month and were drawn from singer Blixa Bargeld's dreams. Despite the Supporter Project site saying it ''"would form a digital-only album that will not be otherwise available''", the album was eventually re-issued and released commercially through their own Potomak label as ''The Jewels'' in July 2008. Einstürzende Neubauten
(, 'Collapsing New Buildings') is a German experimental music group, formed in West Berlin in 1980. The band currently comprises founding members Blixa Bargeld (lead vocals, guitar, keyboard) and N.U. Unruh (custom-made instruments, percussion, vocals), plus Jochen Arbeit (guitar, vocals), and Rudolph Moser (custom-built instruments, percussion, vocals), who both joined the line-up in 1997. One of their trademarks is the use of custom-built instruments, predominantly made out of scrap metal and building tools, and noises, in addition to standard musical instruments. Their early albums were unremittingly harsh, with Bargeld's vocals shouted and screamed above a din of banging and scraping metal percussion. Noise Rock
Noise rock (sometimes called noise punk) is a noise music, noise-oriented style of experimental rock that spun off from punk rock in the 1980s. Drawing on movements such as minimal music, minimalism, industrial music, and New York hardcore, artists indulge in extreme levels of distortion through the use of electric guitars and, less frequently, electronic instrumentation, either to provide percussive sounds or to contribute to the overall arrangement. Some groups are tied to song structures, such as Sonic Youth. Although they are not representative of the entire genre, they helped popularize noise rock among alternative rock audiences by incorporating melodies into their droning textures of sound, which set a template that numerous other groups followed. Experimental Music
Experimental music is a general label for any music or music genre that pushes existing boundaries and genre definitions. Potomak
Potomak (Serbo-Croatian for "descendant") is an artist record label for the German experimental rock band Einstürzende Neubauten. It was founded by the band's front man Blixa Bargeld in 1988 to support the re-release of the band's ''Kollaps'' album on CD format. It also enabled the band to assume ownership of their music and operate outside of a label contract. Potomak also serves as the label for band member's solo projects and has released albums from Alexander Hacke, Rudolph Moser and Blixa Bargeld. Potomak releases are distributed through Rykodisc and Indigo. Blixa Bargeld
Blixa Bargeld (born 12 January 1959) is a German musician who has been the lead singer of the band Einstürzende Neubauten since its formation in 1980. Bargeld was also a founding member of the Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, serving as a member from 1983 until his departure in 2003. Early life Bargeld left school prior to completion and is self-taught. He experimented with audio equipment as a teenager, including the disassembling of tape recorders. The first album that he owned was by Pink Floyd, but he quickly moved on to German krautrock acts such as Kraftwerk, Neu! and Can, which he described as his biggest influences at the time. Bargeld is from the Tempelhof area of West Berlin; he moved out of his parents' home in the late 1970s.
