Delphos Jefferson High School (DJHS), is a public high school in Delphos, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Delphos City School District and serves students in grades 9–12 living in the city of Delphos and parts of neighboring Washington Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, Washington, Marion Township, Allen County, Ohio, Marion, and Jennings Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, Jennings Townships. School colors are red and white and athletic teams are known as the Wildcats. DJHS competes in the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) as a charter member of the Northwest Conference (OHSAA), Northwest Conference. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 295 students and a faculty of 19 teachers, for a student-teacher ratio of 15.53. Delphos, Ohio
Delphos is a city in Allen and Van Wert counties in the U.S. state of Ohio approximately 14 mi (23 km) northwest of Lima and 13 mi (21 km) east of Van Wert. The population was 7,117 at the 2020 census. The Allen County portion of Delphos is part of the Lima, Ohio metropolitan area, while the Van Wert County portion is part of the Lima–Van Wert–Wapakoneta, OH, combined statistical area. History Delphos had its start in the early 1850s with the merger of neighboring rival towns. These were the towns of Howard (in the northwest), Section 10 (in the east), Bredeick Street (south of Howard) and East Bredeick (named after Father John Otto Bredeick, a Bavarian priest, who had purchased the tract of land in 1840). In 1851, the four towns agreed to form a single town called Delphos. The city's name is derived from the Greek god Delphus. The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) is the governing body of athletic programs for junior and senior high schools in the state of Ohio.
