Ifakara
Ifakara is a small rural town in the Kilombero District, Morogoro Region, south central Tanzania. It is the headquarters of the Kilombero District administration and the main trading centre for Kilombero and Ulanga districts. The town is located near the Tanzania-Zambia Railway ( TAZARA) line, at the edge of the Kilombero Valley, a vast swampland flooded by the mighty Kilombero River. Ifakara Health Institute
The Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is a health research organization with offices in Ifakara, Dar es Salaam, Ikwiriri, Bagamoyo, and Mtwara, Tanzania. The institute conducts health-related research in a variety of areas, including malaria and HIV/AIDS. History A field laboratory of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute was founded in Ifakara in 1956 by Rudolf Geigy. From 1981-1984, it was led by Marcel Tanner. It was renamed the "Ifakara Centre" in 1991, the "Ifakara Health Research and Development Centre, IHRDC" in 1996, and the "Ifakara Health Institute" in 2008. Morogoro Region
Morogoro Region (''Mkoa wa Morogoro'' in Swahili) is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. The region covers an area of . The region is comparable in size to the combined land area of the nation state of Ireland. Morogoro Region is bordered to the north by the Manyara Region and Tanga Region, to the east by the Pwani and Lindi Regions, to the south by the Ruvuma Region and to the west by the Iringa Njombe and Dodoma Regions. Kilombero District
Kilombero District is a district in Morogoro Region, south-western Tanzania. The district is situated in a vast floodplain, between the Kilombero River in the south-east and the Udzungwa-Mountains in the north-west. On the other side of the Kilombero River, in the south-east, the floodplain is part of Ulanga District. According to the last census in 2002, the population of Kilombero District is 321,611 The main ethnic groups are Wapogoro, Wandamba, Wabena, and Wambunga and several others in small proportions. The area is predominantly rural with the semi-urban district headquarters Ifakara as major settlement. The majority of the villagers are subsistence farmers of maize and rice. MSABI
MSABI is a non-governmental organization founded by Dale Young in 2009 in Ifakara, Tanzania. Its projects focus on water sanitation, hygiene, and education. Name and history Engineer Dale Young moved to Tanzania in 2007 with his partner who was conducting malaria research. He founded MSABI in 2009 after witnessing a cholera outbreak that resulted from unclean drinking water. The name stands for Maji Safi kwa Afya Bora Ifakara, which translates to "Safe Water for Better Health Ifakara." MSABI's projects focus on installing water pumps, distributing filter pots, building latrines, and educating people on sanitation and hygiene. The aim is to combat diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid, and trachoma, which all may be caused from poor quality drinking water. The Ulanga River, also known as the Kilombero River, rises in the highlands of the southwest of Morogoro Region, Tanzania, on the eastern slope of the East African Rift. The river flows northeast along the northeastern border of the Lindi Region before it flows into the Rufiji River. Mfalikuivahaas ("one who is courageous and can address the public") are of chieftain bloodlines, ' Mfalmes', 'Chiefs', from Southern Africa at a time when Sub-Saharan African civilizations were rich in luxury products including incense, gold, ivory, and ebony. Eye Care Foundation (ECF) is an international charity organisation active in over 20 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin-America. ECF was founded when ''Eyecare Worldwide'' and ''Mekong Eye Doctors'' joined forces in 2008. The two organizations shared the same objectives and working together as the current foundation has proved to be more efficient and effective.
