Iván Segarra Báez
Iván Segarra Báez (July 10, 1967 – October 19, 2022) was a Puerto Rican novelist and poet. He wrote books of poems: ''Candela'' (1997), ''Entre tu cuerpo y mi alma'' (2000) and ''Hay veces que llora el mar'' (2001) and novels. Works Earned a PhD from the Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y El Caribe. Was an associate professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. Báez poetry books were being published since 1997 and include ''Candela'' (1997), ''Entre tu cuerpo y mi alma'' (2000) and ''Hay veces que llora el mar'' (2001). His first novel, ''El Guardián de la Lujuria'', was published in 2003. In Trento, Italy, the publishing house Edizioni Universum awarded him the ''Libro d' Oro, diploma di Merito'' for this work January 29, 2003. His second novel is titled ''La República del Generalísimo'' and was published in 2004. Caguas
Caguas (, ) is a city and municipality in central eastern Puerto Rico. Located in the eponymous Caguas Valley between the Sierra de Cayey and Sierra de Luquillo of the Central Mountain Range, it is bordered by San Juan and Trujillo Alto to the north, Gurabo and San Lorenzo to the west, Aguas Buenas, Cidra and Cayey to the east, and Patillas to the south. With a population of 127,244 as of the 2020 census, Caguas is the fifth most populated municipality in the archipelago and island and a principal city of the San Juan metropolitan area. The Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico) is a private Roman Catholic university with its main campus in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Puerto Rican Literature
Puerto Rican literature is the body of literature produced by writers of Puerto Rican descent. It evolved from the art of Oral literature, oral storytelling. Written works by the indigenous inhabitants of Puerto Rico were originally prohibited and repressed by the Spanish colonial government. It was not until the late 19th century, with the arrival of the first printing press and the founding of the Royal Academy of Belles Letters, that Puerto Rican literature began to flourish. The first writers to express their political views in regard to Spanish colonial rule of the island were journalists. After the United States invaded Puerto Rico during the Spanish–American War and the island was ceded to the United States as a condition of the Treaty of Paris of 1898, writers and poets began to express their opposition of the new colonial rule by writing about patriotic themes.
