Isabel Da Nóbrega
Maria Isabel Guerra Bastos Gonçalves, who used the pseudonym Isabel da Nóbrega (26 June 1925 – 2 September 2021), was a Portuguese writer, playwright, columnist, translator and radio broadcaster. On 9 June 2000, she was made a Grand-Officer of the Order of Merit. On 25 April 2011, she was made a Grand-Officer of the Order of Liberty. Biography Maria Isabel Guerra Bastos Gonçalves was born in Lisbon, on 26 June 1925. Her father was a doctor, and she was raised in a Protestant family. She died in Estoril on 2 September 2021. Career She adopted the pseudonym of Isabel da Nóbrega, and published several works, including plays, screenplays for film and television, novels, and other works under this name. She was a member of PEN Portugal, and the Portuguese Association of Writers. In 1974, she was one of the organizers of the 1st Portuguese Writers' Congress. The ''Diário de Lisboa'' was a daily evening newspaper published in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon between 1921 and 1990. History The newspaper was founded on 7 April 1921 by Joaquim Manso, who ran it until he died in 1956. He was succeeded by Norberto Lopes between 1956 and 1967. The Order of Liberty, or the Order of Freedom (), is a Portuguese honorific civil order that distinguishes relevant services to the cause of democracy and freedom, in the defense of the values of civilization and human dignity. The order was created in 1976, after the Carnation Revolution of 1974 in which the corporatist authoritarian '' Estado Novo'' regime of António de Oliveira Salazar and Marcello Caetano was deposed. Sophia De Mello Breyner Andresen
Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen (6 November 1919 – 2 July 2004) was a Portuguese poet and writer. Considered one of the most important Portuguese poets of the 20th century, she published fourteen poetry books between 1944 and 1997, covering themes such as the natural world, the search for justice, Ancient Greece and the importance of poetry. As a novelist, she published several children's books, which she wrote for her own children, mainly in the 1950s and 1960s. She also wrote essays and theatre plays. Andresen was actively involved in social causes and politics. An opponent of the '' Estado Novo'' regime and the Portuguese Colonial War, she was a founder of the National Commission for Support of Political Prisoners. Natália de Oliveira Correia, Order of St. James of the Sword, GOSE, Order of Liberty, GOL (13 September 1923 – 16 March 1993) was a Portuguese intellectual, poet and social activist, as well as the author of the official lyrics of the "Hino dos Açores", the regional anthem of the Autonomous Region of the Azores. Her work spanned various genres of Portuguese media and she collaborated with many Portuguese and international figures. A member of the Portuguese National Assembly (1980–1991), she regularly intervened politically on behalf of the arts and culture, in the defense of human rights and women's rights.
