The Intel Extreme Masters Season 12 – World Championship or IEM Katowice 2018 was the world championship for the twelfth season of the Intel Extreme Masters. It was held at the Spodek in Katowice, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland from February 27–March 4, 2018. The event featured tournaments for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and StarCraft II. ''Counter-Strike: Global Offensive'' (''CS:GO'') is a 2012 multiplayer tactical first-person shooter developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment. It is the fourth game in the ''Counter-Strike'' series. Developed for over two years, ''Global Offensive'' was released for OS X, PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360 in August 2012, and for Linux in 2014. In December 2018, Valve transitioned the game to a free-to-play model, focusing on revenue from cosmetic items. The game pits two teams, Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, against each other in different objective-based game modes. Ninjas in Pyjamas (often abbreviated to NIP and NiP) is a professional esports organisation based in Sweden that is best known for its '' Counter-Strike'' teams. In 2012, the team reformed with a '' Counter Strike: Global Offensive'' lineup upon the release of the game. Aside from ''Counter-Strike'', the organisation has teams in ''Valorant'', '' Rainbow Six Siege'', ''FIFA'', ''Rocket League'', '' Fortnite Battle Royale'' and ''League of Legends''. (born 22 March 1998), better known as Serral, is a Finnish professional ''StarCraft II'' player using the race Zerg. Kim Yoo-jin (), better known by his gaming handle sOs, is a Korean professional ''StarCraft II'' player. He is the first two-time StarCraft II World Championship Series winner, claiming the title in 2013 and 2015. Kim spent most of his career playing for the Jin Air Green Wings team, from 2013–2020. Jin Air Green Wings () was a South Korean e-sports organization with teams competing in ''StarCraft II'' and ''League of Legends''. Its parent organization was Korean Air subsidiary Jin Air. The organization was formed in November 2011 as a ''StarCraft: Brood War'' team, which combined three disbanding Proleague teams: Hwaesung Oz, WeMade FOX and MBCGame HERO.
