Indooroopilly ( , colloquially Indro ) is a riverside suburb south-west of the Brisbane CBD, Queensland, Australia. In the , Indooroopilly had a population of 13,622 people. Geography Indooroopilly is bounded to the south and south-east by the median of the Brisbane River. Indooroopilly is connected to Chelmer on the southern bank of the river by four bridges, consisting (from east to west) of a pedestrian/cycling bridge ( Jack Pesch Bridge), two rail bridges ( Albert Bridge and Indooroopilly Railway Bridge), and one road bridge ( Walter Taylor Bridge, ). The suburb is designated as a regional activity centre. Indooroopilly has significant commercial, office and retail sectors and is home to Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, the largest shopping centre in Brisbane's western suburbs. Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, formerly Indooroopilly Shoppingtown, is a major regional shopping centre in the western suburb of Indooroopilly in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Walter Taylor Bridge
The Walter Taylor Bridge is a heritage-listed suspension bridge crossing the Brisbane River between Indooroopilly and Chelmer in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is shared by motor traffic and pedestrians and is the only habitable bridge in the Southern Hemisphere. It was originally known as the Indooroopilly Toll Bridge. The bridge footpath will be closed from 26 August to 30 September 2024 general maintenance. The Indooroopilly Railway Bridge is a railway bridge of steel truss design which crosses the Brisbane River, Queensland, Australia. The Indooroopilly Railway Bridge links Indooroopilly railway station, Brisbane, Indooroopilly and Chelmer railway station, Brisbane, Chelmer stations, and has two long spans with one central pier. It was built just upstream and parallel to the Albert Bridge, Brisbane, Albert Bridge as part of the quadruplication of the Ipswich Line between 1955 and 1957. History The present bridge is 208.5 metres long with two equal spans. The Coordinator-General's Department designed the bridge and the Electric Power Transmission Pty Coy was the construction contractor.
