Deportivo Independiente Medellín Femenino is a professional women's football club based in Medellín, Colombia. They are the women's football section of Independiente Medellín and they currently play in the Colombian Women's Football League, the top level women's football league in Colombia. The club was founded in 2019 in an alliance between Independiente Medellín and Formas Íntimas. Their crosstown rivals are Atlético Nacional (women), Atlético Nacional with whom they contest El Clásico Paisa. The club plays their home matches at the Atanasio Girardot Sports Complex, Estadio Atanasio Girardot, although it plays some of its home matches at the Estadio Polideportivo Sur in Envigado and at the Estadio Metropolitano Ciudad de Itagüí in Itagüí. Estadio Atanasio Girardot (Atanasio Girardot Stadium), commonly referred to as El Atanasio, is a multi-purpose stadium in Medellín, Colombia. Itagüí () is a city and municipality of Colombia, located in the south of the Aburrá Valley in the Antioquia Department. It is part of the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley. 2019 Colombian Women's Football League
The 2019 Colombian Women's Football League (officially known as the Liga Águila Femenina 2019 for sponsorship reasons) was the third season of Colombia's top-flight women's football league. The season started on 13 July and concluded on 30 September 2019 with the second leg of the finals. América de Cali won their first league title following a 3–2 win on aggregate against Independiente Medellín in the finals. Atlético Huila were the defending champions, but were eliminated by the eventual runners-up Independiente Medellín in the semifinals.
