Imre Földi Sports Hall
The Imre Földi Sports Hall () is a multi-use indoor arena in Tatabánya, Hungary. The home of Hungarian top division handball club Tatabánya KC, it can accommodate up to 1,000 spectators in handball matches. Due to its dimensions, the sports hall is suitable for a number of other indoor sports as well as exhibitions and concerts. Built in 1976, the arena went through a refurbishment in 2009 at a cost of 212 million Hungarian Forint (approximately US$900,000). In the project the weightlifting hall has been expanded and a new 280 square meter warm-up room was created. On the top of the weightlifting hall a 255 square metre training hall for the wrestling department was constructed while judo competitors got a 220 square meter practice room on the top floor. Tatabánya (; ; ) is a city with county rights of 64,305 inhabitants in northwestern Hungary, in the Central Transdanubian region. It is the capital of Komárom-Esztergom County. Tatabánya Kézilabda Club is a Hungarian team handball club from Tatabánya, that plays in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I. The current name of the club is MOL Tatabánya KC due to sponsorship reasons. History Early history In Tatabánya, handball boasts a long history. The game took place in an organized form from 1942, within the framework of the Tatabányai Bányász Sport Club (TBSC). The transition from the big field to the small field handball, which was ordered by the Hungarian Handball Association (MKSZ) at the end of 1959, was a fundamental change. The forint (, sign Ft; code HUF) is the currency of Hungary. It was formerly divided into 100 fillér, but fillér coins are no longer in circulation. Imre Földi
Imre Földi (; 8 May 1938 – 23 April 2017) was a Hungarian weightlifter. Competing at a record of five Olympic Games, he won a gold medal in 1972 and silver medals in 1964 and 1968. During his career he set 21 world records, and after his retirement he coached his daughter to become a European champion. Földi earned numerous awards for his results and achievements, most notably he was named Weightlifter of the Century by the International Weightlifting Federation and was elected for ''Sportsperson of the Nation'' in Hungary. Early life Born in Kecskemét, Hungary, Földi lived in his hometown until he turned 17 as a half-orphan after he lost his mother in World War II. Subsequently, he moved to Tata to work as a hewer.
