Ildefonso Martínez
Ildefonso Martínez Pérez (1873 – 31 August 1915) was a Spanish footballer who is widely regarded as the first known Spanish football player in history. Early life Ildefonso Martínez was born in La Palma del Condado, Huelva, in 1873, as the son of Eduardo Martínez, an engineer from Madrid, and Dolores Pérez, who belonged to a wealthy family from La Palma. His father had left the Spanish capital after being hired by German businessmen Guillermo Sundheim to work on constructing the Huelva-Seville railway. Estadio Nuevo Colombino is a multi-purpose stadium in Huelva, Spain. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and is the home ground of Recreativo de Huelva. Football was first introduced to Spain in Huelva and it still hosts the annual Trofeo Colombino, one of the traditional curtain-raisers to the Spanish football season. Alfonso XII (Alfonso Francisco de Asís Fernando Pío Juan María de la Concepción Gregorio Pelayo de Borbón y Borbón; 28 November 185725 November 1885), also known as ''El Pacificador'' (Spanish: the Peacemaker), was King of Spain from 29 December 1874 to his death in 1885.
