Real Club Recreativo de Huelva, S.A.D. () is a List of football clubs in Spain, Spanish football club based in Huelva, Andalucia, Spain. Founded on 23 December 1889, they are the oldest football club in Spain, and currently play in , holding home games at ''Estadio Nuevo Colombino'', which has a 21,670 seating-capacity. Team colours are white shirts with blue vertical stripes and white shorts. History Background Huelva was introduced to football by the British employees of the Rio Tinto Company Limited (RTCL), who began to arrive in 1873 to work at the copper mines of Rio Tinto (river), Rio Tinto. Estadio Nuevo Colombino is a multi-purpose stadium in Huelva, Spain. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and is the home ground of Recreativo de Huelva. Football was first introduced to Spain in Huelva and it still hosts the annual Trofeo Colombino, one of the traditional curtain-raisers to the Spanish football season. With a capacity of 21,670 seats, it is the List of stadiums in Spain#Current Stadiums, 30th-largest stadium in Spain and the 6th-largest in Andalusia. William Alcock (footballer)
William Jonathan Alcock (1860 – 3 January 1930) was an Irish footballer who was the first captain of Spanish club Recreativo de Huelva, leading his side in the first official football match in Spain in 1890, and later led the club to its first-ever piece of silverware in 1904. Early life Born in 1860 in Cork, Alcock moved to Huelva in 1888, after being hired as head of the Groceries Department in the second warehouse of the Rio Tinto Company Limited. Whilst there, he opened a pub in the street currently known as ''Avenida de Italia''. Playing career Alcock was not one of the founding members of Recreativo de Huelva in December 1889, but he had a chalet near ''Hotel Colón'', the place where it had been founded. The first official football match in Spain between two sides playing under the rules of the English FA was contested between the two oldest clubs in Spain, Recreativo de Huelva and Sevilla FC, on 8 March 1890, held at the Hipódromo de Tablada in Seville. José Muñoz Pérez
José Muñoz Pérez (7 April 1869 – 7 September 1921) was a Spanish sports journalist who co-founded Recreativo de Huelva in 1889. Early life and education José Muñoz Pérez was born in Huelva on 7 April 1869, as the son of Josefa Pérez Ortiz (1842–1916) and Francisco Muñoz Morales (1838–1878), founder of the Muñoz Printing Press, which later became the property of his widow and sons. His father was an editor of the Huelva newspaper La Provincia (Huelva), ''La Provincia'' since its inception in 1873, and who had also previously edited another newspaper, ''El Porvenir de Huelva'', which began in 1869. Pedro Nolasco de Soto y Colom (20 January 1848 – 26 July 1908) was a Spanish civil engineer who was named co-president of Recreativo de Huelva in its second-ever meeting in 1889. Early life and education Pedro Nolasco de Soto was born in Seville on 20 January 1848, as the first-born son of Maria Luisa Colom y Colom and Cádiz-born Ricardo de Soto y Lavaggi, a banker.
