History Hunger Task Force was formed in 1974 by a group of parents who were concerned their children were going to school hungry in Milwaukee Public Schools. These parents banded together and successfully advocated for a school breakfast program. In 1977, WISN-TV in Milwaukee organized the Food For Families holiday food drive, and the "task force" was called upon to collect, store and distribute the donated food, creating Milwaukee's first and foremost food bank. The School Breakfast Program is a federally funded meal program that provides free and reduced cost breakfasts to children at public and private schools, and child care facilities in the United States. All children in participating schools and residential institutions are eligible for a federally subsidized meal, regardless of family income. However, free meals must be offered to children from families with incomes below 130% of the federal poverty level, and reduced price meals to those with family incomes between 130% and 185% of the poverty level. Franklin is a city in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. It is a suburb of Milwaukee with a population of 36,816 as of the 2020 census. History On December 20, 1839, the south portion of the Town of Kinnikinick was split off to form the town of Franklin. The town consisted of a 36-square-mile area that was originally covered with heavy timber, which was mostly hardwoods such as hickory, walnut, and butternut. Most of the town's drainage was delivered by the Root River and there was an abundance of wildlife including bears, deer, and wolves.
