Volhynia or Volynia ( ; see #Names and etymology, below) is a historic region in Central and Eastern Europe, between southeastern Poland, southwestern Belarus, and northwestern Ukraine. Horodok (, ) is a city in Khmelnytskyi Raion, Khmelnytskyi Oblast (oblast, province) of Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Horodok urban hromada, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Horodok urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Its population was 17,746 according to the 2001 census. It hosts the administration of Horodok urban hromada, Lviv Oblast, Horodok urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: History Horodok was first mentioned by Nestor the Chronicler in the ''Primary Chronicle''. The ''Galician–Volhynian Chronicle'' mentions that the King Daniel of Galicia came to Horodok with his forces to join Mstislav Mstislavich the Bold while they fought with Polish-Hungarians over the Galician land. In the mid-14th century, together with whole Kingdom of Rus, the settlement was annexed by the Kingdom of Poland (1025–1385), Kingdom of Poland. Horodok (; ; ) is a village in Dashiv settlement hromada, Haisyn Raion, Vinnytsia Oblast, in Ukraine. It lies on both banks of the Soroka River[:uk:Сорока (притока Собу), uk] (a tributary of the Sobu[:uk:Соб, uk]), and is located 32 km southeast of the city of Illintsi. The population was 1,076 as of January 1, 2018. History Initially, the settlement was called Grudek (Ukrainian: Грудек), and was founded between 1612 and 1625, then being part of the Granov volost[:uk:Гранівська волость, uk]. It was founded by a Szlachta, nobleman from the Sieniawski (Leliwa), Sieniawski family of the Leliwa coat of arms, who, at the time, was the owner of the land that comprised the Granivska volost.
