History Of The Jews In Palau
The history of the Jews in Palau is a relatively recent development, beginning with the arrival of the Israeli-born couple Tova and Navot Bornovski, and their children, who moved to Palau in 1993 to operate the Fish 'n Fins diving center and the Barracuda Restaurant. The family expanded and added two children, who were the first recorded Jewish children born on Palau. Both children have native middle names. The most prominent Jewish citizen was Stuart Beck, a Jewish-American lawyer that helped negotiate the Compact of Free Association which established Palau as an independent nation in 1994, held honorary citizenship, and was named Palau's first Permanent Representative to the United Nations in 2003. English Language

Palau was initially settled around 1000 BC. For the first time, Palau was probably sighted by Europeans early as 1522, when the Spanish mission of the Trinidad, the flagship of Ferdinand Magellan's voyage of circumnavigation, sighted two small islands around the 5th parallel north, naming them "San Juan" without visiting them. Palau was discovered by the Europeans on 28 December 1696 when the first map of Palau was drawn by the Czech missionary Paul Klein based on a description given by a group of Palauans shipwrecked on the Philippine coast on Samar. This map and a letter sent to Europe by Klein in June 1697 had a vast impact on the surge of interest in Palau. Israel–Palau relations are the bilateral relations between the State of Israel and the Republic of Palau. Israel was the first non-Pacific nation to declare diplomatic relations with Palau at its independence in 1994. Israel favored Palau's admission into the United Nations and offered economic aid to the young state. The Israeli Foreign Ministry has sent convoys of agricultural and fishing experts to Palau to help in training the local population. Israel maintains an honorary consulate in Koror. As of 2006, Palau had the highest voting coincidence with Israel in the United Nations. 2009 Maccabiah Games
The 18th Maccabiah Games ( he, המכביה ה-18 ישראל תשס"ט), were held in July 2009. According to the organizing committee these were the largest games held yet. These Games were the world's fifth-largest sporting event, behind the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World Police and Fire Games, and Universiade. Stuart Beck
Stuart Jay Beck (December 23, 1946 – February 29, 2016) was an American law practitioner and a diplomat for Palau. As a lawyer he helped negotiate the Compact of Free Association, which established Palau as an independent nation in free association with the United States in 1994. For his contributions to Palau, he was granted honorary citizenship. In 2003, he accepted the post for Palau's first Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He served continuously in this position until 2013, at which time he was appointed as Palau's first ever United Nations Ambassador for Oceans and Seas. In addition to that position, Beck co-chaired with Amir Dossal the Sustainable Oceans Alliance, an organization dedicated to the adoption by the General Assembly of a Sustainable Development Goal on Oceans.
