Israel–Palau Relations
Israel–Palau relations are the bilateral relations between the State of Israel and the Republic of Palau. Israel has an honorary consulate in Koror. Palau has an honorary consulate in Tel Aviv. There are less than 10 Jews living in Palau including one Israeli family. Both countries cooperate on matters of agriculture, technology, and desalination. History Israel was the first non-Pacific nation to declare diplomatic relations with Palau at its independence in 1994. Israel favored Palau's admission into the United Nations and offered economic aid to the young state. The Israeli Foreign Ministry has sent convoys of agricultural and fishing experts to Palau to help in training the local population. As of 2006, Palau had the highest voting coincidence with Israel in the United Nations. Bilateral Relations
Bilateralism is the conduct of political, economic, or cultural relations between two sovereign states. It is in contrast to unilateralism or multilateralism, which is activity by a single state or jointly by multiple states, respectively. When states recognize one another as sovereign states and agree to diplomatic relations, they create a bilateral relationship. States with bilateral ties will exchange diplomatic agents such as ambassadors to facilitate dialogues and cooperations. Economic agreements, such as free trade agreements (FTAs) or foreign direct investment (FDI), signed by two states, are a common example of bilateralism. Ehud Olmert
Ehud Olmert (; , ; born 30 September 1945) is an Israeli politician and lawyer who served as the prime minister of Israel from 2006 to 2009. The son of a former Herut politician, Olmert was first elected to the Knesset for Likud in 1973, at the age of 28. History Of The Jews In Palau
The history of the Jews in Palau is a relatively recent development, beginning with the arrival of the Israeli-born couple Tova and Navot Bornovski, and their children, who moved to Palau in 1993 to operate the Fish 'n Fins diving center and the Barracuda Restaurant. The family expanded and added two children, who were the first recorded Jewish children born on Palau. Both children have native middle names. The most prominent Jewish citizen was Stuart Beck, a Jewish-American lawyer that helped negotiate the Compact of Free Association which established Palau as an independent nation in 1994, held honorary citizenship, and was named Palau's first Permanent Representative to the United Nations in 2003. Ilana Seid
Ilana Victoria Seid is a Palauan ambassador to the United Nations. She also chairs the Pacific Small Islands Developing States (PSIDS) which lobbies at the United Nations on behalf of 14 small nations. Life Seid graduated from Stanford University with a degree in economics. She worked as an intern at Palau's office in New York in 2005. She had positions in banking in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and New York while employed by the now defunct American bank of Lehman Brothers and the Japanese Nomura Securities. She also worked in New York as a software engineer. Seid was interested in interior design and she created an e-commerce company called, Sunday-Morning.com. Seid was Palau's ambassador to the United Nations in 2021 and she presented her credentials to the UN's Secretary General on 16 September. Moshe Katsav
Moshe Katsav (; born Musa Qassab; 5 December 1945) is an Israeli former politician and was the president of Israel from 2000 to 2007. He was also a leading Likud member of the Israeli Knesset and a minister in its Cabinet of Israel, cabinet. He was the first Mizrahi Jew to be elected to the presidency, and second non-Ashkenazi president after Yitzhak Navon. He is also the only ex-Israeli president to have been convicted of a crime. The end of his presidency was marked by controversy, stemming from allegations of rape of one female subordinate and sexual harassment of others. Katsav resigned from the presidency in 2007 as part of a plea bargain. Katsav later rejected the deal with prosecutors and vowed he would prove his innocence in court.
